Sorry for the hijack - but are we talking £85 up to £225 for a gauge?!
That's a lot of £ for a gauge compared to - well almost anything!
Is my understanding that it's an output / display device only and based on what it says you would adjust your turbo settings?
Matt, the EGT gauge is to check whether you're over-fuelling (feeding too much fuel after tweaking the pump to take advantage of the cooler air from the I/C). Too much fuel makes the combustion temps too high and can do nasty things to the pistons and valves. An I/C on its own (i.e. no fuelling increase) actually lowers EGT so no life or death need for an EGT gauge IF that's the case, hence the general

to I/Cs because they increase the efficiency and longevity of the engine if you're not trying to get big power gains at the same time. (Apologies if I am stating the obvious)
Based on what the EGT gauge says, you would adjust the fuelling, rather than turbo boost. Obviously increasing the boost pressure without upping the fuelling in the 1st place doesn't make a lot of sense

In light of your recent engine replacement, I'm chuckling that you think a few hundred quid is expensive if it makes the difference between your engine going bang or not
To Chris, have you had a look at the Safari I/C
"package" for the HD-T? A gorgeous set-up but a lot of dosh IIRC - something like £2k, could be worse now with the exchange rate changes since I last looked. I recall seeing a lot of scathing Aussie commentary on LCOOL about the crudeness of the Allisport set-up by comparison. Yes, the Allisport looks nice and shiny with the alli bits but the bends and radiuses do leave a lot to be desired in terms of smooth airflow. Have a look at the Safari kits and you'll see the difference with the pipework. The Safari option looks OEM standard - but £800 vs £2k suddenly sounds like good value if it matches the performance.
