I need to buy some diff oil for the rear and I notice the manual says if you have a LSD you need one type of oil or another if you don't. How can I tell which to buy as I'm not sure whether I have a LSD?

The LSD axle normally has a warning sticker on telling you only to use LSD oil.
If the sticker is not there then jack up one rear wheel and in neutral try and turn it. If it is LSD very stiff to turn.

Have you a diff lock switch on dash for front and rear lockers?

If so you do not have a LSD

Been thinking. If you jack both rear wheels off the ground you will bypass the VSC. Either wheel will be easy to turn with no LSD.

If you spin one wheel the other should spin in the same direction if you have an lsd, if it spins.opposite direction you have an open/locker diff.

Don't bother with this jacking up and spinning wheels malarkey, it sounds like a lot of work to me.

Check the code on your VIN plate which should be located on the passenger side bulkhead under the bonnet:-

K292 = open diff
K294 = locked diff
K295 = LSD

Thanks everyone, great info as usual. :thumbup:

I can see a K304 in the lower sections, but not the above..... Hmmmm :think:

Been thinking if its possible to fit a LSD diff to the front diff in my 80 series. Any thoughts?

You might not be able to fit a factory lsd but you can fit a Truetrac 913A609. I fitted Truetrac 913A609 to the front of my KZJ70 Land Cruiser and I believe the exact same model fits the front 80 diff. Price is 672 euros but is might cheaper if you import from the states via a friend as a birthday gift! I paid around £220 when I had it shipped to my hotel in the states.

I found DTS (Drive Train Specialists) in the states were the most competitively priced for Eaton/Truetrac parts.
