Diff Ratio Strengths

Many moons ago I was a LandRover user!

As many of you will know, Land Rover Series used a diff ratio of 4.7:1 and all coil sprung used 3.5:1 ratios.
An easy fix to partly correct final drive ratio was to fit 4.7 to what should be 3.5, the only trouble being that even in Land Rover terms the 4.7's are a lot weaker than the 3.5's due to the smaller pinion.

My question.... Is this the same for LC80's where the manuals are 3.7:1 (manual) and 4.1:1 (automatic). Are the 4.1's significantly weaker than the 3.7's?

As far as I am aware a 3.7 pinion has 11 teeth to the ring gear's 41 and a 4.1diff pinion has 10 teeth to the ring gear's 41. Looking at them both they look the same size physically.

Cheers Andy, nice to know, on the LR's there is a significant difference with pinion size.

Only difference is Landrover diffs are made from chocolate LOL
