You will probably find that the problem is a broken wire (or five) where the harness passes from the body through a rubber boot into the driver's door.
I had the same thing on my '95'. My mirror didn't work and I spent a lot of time removing it and testing it to find that all the functions worked in the mirror. There were a few broken wires in the door entry-point, fixing them cured the problem.
It means removing the door card and the kick panel in the driver's footwell.
I removed the complete harness from inside the door (it didn't take too long):
The broken wires were inside the boot.
I moved the 'boot' along and then spliced in some fresh wiring.
I then put it all back together and its been fine since .
I haven't done this on a '100' but I expect it will be similar.
Well checked all the wiring, everything OK there, I sprayed gallons of WD40 behind the actual mirror last night and today everything is working again....
