Engine bay moulding

What is the purpose of the moulded carpet like material on each wheel arch in the engine bay??


I want to remove it if it serve no purpose.

Think it's heat shield and vibration / sound absorbent Warren - stops you hearing and feeling the stones hitting there on gravel roads. Best leave it in for where you're going

Agh that is a bugger as all it seems to do is trap crap underneath it and retain moisture.

I cant see it having to shield the wheel wells from too much heat but get the noise side of things.

As Gary says but it also absorbs engine noise making the engine bay less echoing.

P.S. Got my tailgate replacement approved !!
