Engine will not start after injectionpump seal replacement

Re: Engine will not start after injectionpump seal replaceme

Hey Dave,

the smoking is sorted out. We fiddled around a bit with pump timing which sorted it. Ran beautifully afterwards. For about 3 hours. Then it decided to mock us again. Turned out that the small half-circle key in the injector pump axle got a bit damaged while working on it. So, went to the shop and got a new one, put it in and 1st try was a good start with perfect smooth idle. Problem solved. Also took care of leaking Rocker cover (changed seal), so engine stays bone-dry now :D

Gave her a good clean as well so looks way better! Now only to solve a new problem (see new post) and find a suitable route...Have heard some positive stories about syria, but not of overlanders, and have no idea about the borders with Turkey and Jordan. We were tipped about a ferry from greece, which turned out to be suspended for 10 years already. There might be a possibility from Turkey we are now investigating. When are you planning to be around syria (if you're going that way that is...)

Cheers!

Great to see you got it all sorted, I thnk the part you are refering to is the woodruff key? I have never seen one of those damage on a pump before but worth noting for the furture.

maybe good to mention it was damaged due to human failure.... :?

Hi Chaps, Pleased to hear it is all sorted now,

I have been to the Syrian Embassy today & applied for our visa's, they should be ready for collection on Friday all going well, we are still be going to set off on the 16th of July & monitor the situation in Syria between now & the time we take to reach the border.

We have heard of a few people who have transited in both directions within the last two weeks with no problems & in fact one couple spent time in Damascus sight seeing, some other people have taken the option to transit Iraq to avoid Syria. If we enter from Turkey we will probably cross as quick as possible & rest up in Jordan.

Failing that we will have a look in Mersin for a RoRo ferry.

Regards Dave.
