Floor lining/sound deadening?

Ive had the carpets up and just wondering what the liner all over the floor is? I assumed sound deadening material of some kind. Slightly worried because a section of it is extremely bubbled which makes me worry if something bad is happening underneath. Do any of your 80's have bubbling in this lining material?

Is it easy to get up? Want to put some more deadening stuff down.

Pics may help others to advise as the floor is a big area, When I took the GS carpet out to clean it I got rid of the factory sound deadening materiel as if it gets wet it holds moisture for years and replaced it with ordinary thick carpet cut to shape. Its just as quiet as before but if it has to be removed it comes out in one quick piece. There is specialist sound deadening materiel but it is expensive.

Do you mean the carpet type material or the black hard material (5-8mm thick)?

If the latter, it can be removed with a bit of effort. I've seen someone freeze it off with a block of dry ice (5-10 minutes under a block and 'pop') but can be prised off by hand with a little more effort...

yap i mean the black hard stuff. my weird carpet sponge stuff was very waterlogged in drivers footwell (where this pic was taken)...but most is still attached the the carpet..which needs a bloody good clean.

just a bit worried about all these bubbles.

dry ice would be cool but dont have any. i guess ill be out with a chisel or something getting it off then..kinda tempted to just put some sound deadening over the top of it.

AndycruiserguyLomas, did you just go to a normal carpet supplier and have them cut it for you? or did you get dirty with a pair of scissors?
