Gearbox slipping whats my Collie worth??

Better the devil you know.

The Collie I mean. Though…

If it goes, you’ll lose out big time. What next? Another unknown vehicle?

I really hate it when folks kick a man when he’s down and already kicking himself more than anyone will ever know.

Failure only happens when you stop trying.

Ok, what’s the purpose of the truck? To buy, fix up and sell on at a profit? I don’t suppose so. If I’m right you probably bought it intending to keep it and use it and for it to become a part of the family.

I think you have the perfect opportunity to fix this, have a decent truck and prove to your other half that you don’t deserve to get it in the neck.

A stag?

Really!! :icon-surprised:

We all make mistakes and clearly your choice of country of origin and manufacturer has improved since that time. You did learn from that mistake.

Hi All,
Sad but it looks like my Collie will be up for sale very soon as no auto boxes have materialised :confusion-shrug: its just sitting on my drive its got to be worth £1500 all day being in such good condition (except the autobox) Its a VX model with all the extras ie grey leather elec seats a/c sunroof has NO dents dings to the bodywork and has never been welded. The engine runs brilliant with no smoke or rattles and loads of power is mot'd until Aug 2019 this will make someone a very nice straight tidy Collie when the box is sorted please p/m me if interested any viewings welcome i'm in B77 :icon-sad:

I know very little about these boxes, and hope it stays that way, but there’s guys on here, I can’t remember who ( @BobMurphy Maybe @Jon Wildsmith ) who know far more.

Not me, I'm afraid, I have an Auto '100' but that is my first Auto ever (and hopefully my last) - Manual Gearboxes or Transfer Boxes for me !

There is an "Auto Transmissions" specialist Co. that folks used to rave about on here, but their name escapes me. I would be inclined to give them a call if someone can remember the contact details. Probably not cheap but from your description of the car it would be my approach as the truck will probably serve you well for years after that.

I would change the Torque Converter as well - just to be sure.

I'm sure someone on here would collect your car on a trailer and take it to the Co. (I would, but I'm in Edinburgh so probably not practical - I'd also have to prise the Transporter Trailer away from a neighbour, he doesn't mind borrowing my trailers, but getting hold of his can be a problem ).

Don't give up on it just yet .

Bob.

Just to add some weight to this, IMO it would be a tragedy to let a good truck go just for the sake of a second hand gearbox.

It may take some time to find one, but well worth the wait IMHO.

Of course, the truck isn’t sitting on my driveway, so I accept that it’s rather too easy for me to comment.

Thanks guys for the support and encouragement Shayne thanks for the link i have messaged the breaker but he has't got one at the moment

there are 3 or 4 auto boxes on eBay at the moment
I can only see one on there for a diesel which is over 150 miles from me the only others i can see are for petrol engined Collies unless i have missed them:icon-confused:

I just searched for Colorado gearbox. I’m guessing but I’d have thought the diesel and petrol boxes are the same

Thanks Mark but i am sure the ratios or gear changes would be different between the diesel and petrol but like you i'm guessing :icon-confused:can anyone answer this ???

I thought that the drivetrains, including auto gearboxes were the same for both the 3.0TD and 3.4v6 petrol on the Collies.

Can't remember the exact number but something like A442f on both?

Maybe I'm mistaken - won't be the first time! :shifty:

EDIT : Just been out to look at mine - according to the VIN plate my gearbox is the "A343F"

Here's the plate on my gearbox a 30-43LE.

Have a look in the engine bay - the build/VIN plate is on the bulkhead to the right of the brake master cylinder. The last few characters of the bottom row contains the gearbox code. Sorry I don't have a pic!
