Happy Boy!

Thanks for the reply - hose sorted, ordered one from Amazon usa, so it fits now - i didnt realise there were different fittings......
We have had lots of rain but no further leaks....I dont know why. The corner of the windscreen does look a bit bumpy, and the glass on drivers corner has delaminated, so a new screen will be needed one day.

What a week! Mostly not cruiser related but this bit is. Truck went in for oil and filter change yesterday. Was also going to get new shocks fitted. Got a call from mech about lunchtime but because of no internet failed to get it until later. The shocks dont fit.....where the top stud if you like fits to the car there is a bracket ......mech didn't want to start stripping out cos he knows we need both car and van pretty much most of the time. So going back through invoices the replacement shocks are the same but there is a fitting kit also. Do I need this fitting kit (which I am presuming is the bracket) again or can I re-use what is there? Going to try and post pics but on phone out side supermarket at the moment..... 20180407_085818.jpg 20180407_085847.jpg

Why not the bracket looks in good shape and as long as the shocks fit snug how can it matter , i'm not familiar with my 80's suspension yet but if i found that bracket on my 90 i might consider using the upper bush from the old shock in the new one .

That looks nothing like the top mount on any of my shocks.

Problem is neither I or mech knows how the shock is held in. It's difficult to see. He didn't want to strip it just before the weekend when we need it. Thought it safer to find out if they are reusable or not. It looks like the top of the shock has a different fitting, same as bottom of the shock.

It looks like the top mount has been modded to a bobbin type Steve, not seen them on an 80 before....

I must admit I was looking at those pics and not recognising what I was seeing. The top mount for the shocks is a very sturdy pressed steel plate that undoes (if you’re lucky) with a couple of bolts each. The bolt of the shock then goes through with the rubbers and a nut and two stout washers.

mmmm, could be my bad.......Original invoice from Julian at Overland Cruisers (see pic) States '80 series Ridepro long Travel Competition Rear shocks and fitting kit' I ordered '80 series Ridepro Xtream rear shocks' (from company in France)but the ozzy site is a bit confusing.........ho hum. Going to need a Julian to advise me I think ;)

Looks like the OEM shock mount steel plate has been replaced with a plate to take a different type of shock mount. Should be just a case of unbolting the it and replacing it with an OEM type, assuming you’re wanting to fit OEM type shocks.

I would like to keep it as it is - with the big lift etc. I may have to return these shocks and if I can get the part numbers to replace what I have I will then have to source them....

Why the difference? Any benefit? I can only guess that the correct shocks didn’t turn up last time and those received got fitted. I would have thought the cruiser method of fixing was better as it’s a seriously strong plate.

Daft thought, it is a cruiser chassis isn’t it? There was a ‘trol that looked almost exactly like an 80.

"I can only guess that the correct shocks didn’t turn up last time and those received got fitted", You guess wrong.... it was a bespoke suspension package tailored by an Australian suspension specialist to the previous owners requirements.

Happens all the time I’m afraid.
So what was the benefit then?

It was a complete package from Australia, The shocks including mounting brackets were part of the kit, supposedly matched to the springs, flex and weight of the truck at that time.

This is why I want to keep it the same, why mess with it if it works so well :) Anyhoo, long story short, the supplier will take the incorrectly ordered ones back, no problem. He can get me the ones I need, but not for a month.......our insurance co says we have until end of April to get it Frenchiefied, cant do that without the CT, and new shocks......however, we have a cunning plan. We have started the registration process and have a Dossier number. We can now prove to the ins co that we have indeed applied and are waiting for the French (new system) it will be rejected but by that time we should have a CT (MOT) and can re-apply :) phew!

What a performance it is Steve...

I’ve got my ITP (MOT) next month and that’s bad enough, with all the “extras” I have on the truck.. :?
