HJ47 chassis plating: Can anyone tell me why?

Guys I've pulled the cab of my HJ47 tray to start cleaning up the chassis. There's a horrible looking double plating setup next to the pipe chassis brace behind the gerarbox (see the photo). Can anyone tell me what it's for? It's that rough I thought it was a botched repair but it looks original. Both sides are the same. They appear to be pressed, not bashed into shape with a hammer.

doesn't sound right to me, i have an HJ47 chassis in stock and it looks very Toyota (over engineered efficiently produced)

That's standard, Toyota strengthened the chassis due to the length.
