it just keeps coming

Hi Niall
I have also heard this somewhere but its not my cause because I think the
cruiser has a very poor turning circle.

Have also read (on some of the yank sites) that incorrectly adjusted
steering leads to failures - ie if your steering allows you to
oversteer, you are more likely to have a failure.
Not sure how you check this - tie rod end adjustment perhaps....

Hi Guys
The cruiser was taken to Toyota today.
So I cant wait for the bill.
I explained to them that the Cvs were the ABS type so I hope I dont get a
phone call to say they dont fit.
It was possible to hear crunching and a real metal catching somewhere effect
in the front of the cruiser when I drove it onto the flat bed so im happy I
didn't drive it around for the last week.
If it turns out to be say a half shaft do any of you know a supplier other
than Toyota. I asked Milners and they dont do them and dont know who does.
A funny thing regarding this is the fact that the mechanic who turned his
phone off on me when I tried to get him a few times since this issue, is the
same guy who will now have to work on it in Toyota al be it at twice the
price to me.
cheers

Hello now John,
her
.
I did just replace mine haft shafts too you remember and my friend
garagist told me there is not other choice than Toyota. He does mainy
80 prepas for nord afrique and has autorit=E9 when he speaks to things
like that. Maybe you lucky er in Irland or UK. But to remember that
Toyota does some lots of there parts butt cheeks good so only
confirmed better parts coming de confirmed renowned company would be
aplicable to you needs.
But then I break half shaft once before and it not make metal noise you say of.

John
You mentioned you had a CV replaced not too long ago - the same one
gone now?
Niall

Hi Guys
Had word back from Toyota.
Its not finished yet but it was a busted CV on the drivers side.
I gave them two CVs to replace both sides while they were at it
The longer ones with new drive flanges aswell..
One side was a Milner CV and the other was a Toyota.
As far as we can remember the one that has busted this time was the Toyota
CV and not the Milners.
As far as I can gather the cage broke apart.
This happened before with another CV from Toyota only a few days old.

John
You've been unlucky with CV's - or perhaps your mechanic is not packing
them correctly?....
Also - It is unusual for Mr T garages to install non-Toyo parts

Hi John,
Wow, that is unusual.
I have seen busted shafts, but not the cage breaking apart.
Could it have been that the CV was an original one and was just so worn that
it gave up the ghost?
Did you have any noise from the last one when turning sharply? (although this
could have been masked a bit by the repack you did a year or so ago?
Out of interest why did you have one Toyota and one Milner CV? Is this
because the other Toyota CV broke last time and you replaced it with a Milner
one?

Hi Niall
They have no problem fitting the parts I get, but on the invoice they always
print in bold letters supplied by customer, I presume as a get out clause.
As for the Milner parts, well they are a hell of a lot cheaper than Toyota.
Delivery to Ireland for up to 30 kgs is ?13 so I get a few bits at a time.
Their cv is about 130 euro compared to Toyota at about 600 euro I think.
I have now had two Milners CVs fitted new so if they go soon then we will
know wont we or could the fitter have an impact aswell as the actual CV.
The only way to tell is if the new CVs were stripped again and repacked by a
person who knew 100% that they were correctly packed and fitted.
But this is not going to happen in my case cause its costly enough to get
them done the first time shame really because we would have our answer would
we not.
Their exhaust is a lot cheaper too and we will see how long it lasts.
As for their brake discs well I dont know, all I know is the brakes have a
bit of shutter in them, from what I dont know.
I am replacing the pads on the front today with Toyota as ones as always so
we will see.
The original discs may have warped that is why I changed them which did
improve things a good bit.
I have been reading up on brakes and such and it would seem that a warped
disc is very unusual indeed.
You can get problems from the residue left behind from pads and if new pads
and discs are not broken in properly problems can accure.
When discs get too hot the metal can change its make up in places and along
with pad over heating gives the symptons of a shutter and brake fade.
But if its that simple to get bad brakes then I suspect most vehicles on the
road have been run in improperly by the delivery guys, the garage guys, the
mechanics, the customers etc etc.
I know for a fact when my new pads and discs were fitted the guy would not
have broken them in properly before he drove it back to me.
There is some sort of abrasive paper that you can rub on your discs which is
supossed to clean them of all residue which I will try if I can remember the
name of it.

Hi Julian
Last time the original Toyota CV wore away at the splines at the flange.
I had this replaced by a Toyota CV by Toyota and within a few days it had
bust.
The cage broke into bits and Toyota replaced this with another Toyota one
free of charge.
I then decide to look at the other side and it showed signs of wear at the
splines so I replaced that one with a Milners CV, which was still there up
to yesterday.
There was no noise of any sort from either side up to failure.

Hi John,
I wonder if they forgot to put grease in?
Most modern cars tend to have sealed bearing that don't require repacking so
the Toyo mechanics aren't used to it.
I replaced the CVs on an 80 a few months back and I found out they had only
been in the car for under 5k miles - they had been replaced by the local
dealer for the previous owner and they had forgotten to put any grease in.
Ideally the CV should be around 2/3rds full with grease well packed into the
cone before assembly.

Hi Julian
Now that is the question that will never be answered and it will be the same
with the work done today unless as I say they are inspected again.

Hi Guys
I checked with AAI and they have the CVs but they say that the old ABS ring
must be taken from your old CV and put on their new ones where as Milners
come with an ABS ring already on.
john 92HDJ 80 1HDT

Hi Guys
I collected the cruiser.
They said the CV failed in the cage and more than like I cracked it a while
ago and that sealed its faith.
I have a CV left over from the work.
Its intact so its the one that was ok.
My question is how can you tell the difference between the Toyota and Milner
CVs, or is there any that you can see.
Its just while I am 100% sure it was the Toyota one that failed if I had
proof it would be a better 100%.
cheers

Ah lads
Hit a man when his cruiser is down.
Ok its me both times, I knew I would bust something but after doing all that
I never thought it would happen while I was coming home after getting my
nails done.
My cruiser has been spotted in other places in different colours too but
where.
I have also seen the stronger Birfirlds or CVs but it has been knocked into
me from the more experienced on the list that its easier and less costly to
replace a CV( the weak point) then a half shaft or diff.
But then I suspect that is if you dont have to pay to get it fixed.
I wonder what the cost of a half shaft or diff is from Toyota.
Ah what do i know ill just stick to what im good at driving the cruiser in
vidios and wreaking it driving to Tesco.
Does anyone know if you had a Toyota and a Milners CV side by side how to
tell the difference.

Hello the Steve this guy has some good suspensions on his 80 but I
thing he go too fast. Also this must be not diesel maybe some hzx80?
First utube guys were on Moab, I have seen that space before in
'ricain magazine mainy times. Why he perservere on to brake him
beerfield when even crazy guy can see his 80 is too low and need
bigger wheels.

Hi Malcolm,
I don't know why they didn't use bridging ladders?
