Not terribly happy, really. 52141 miles, 7 years old, 60k service carried out, and this is the list:

Right rear wheel studs need replacing - will have to be a DIY repair I think.
Front left brake caliper - one piston sticking. Whole unit replaced 2 years ago .... will get a refurb kit and sort it myself
Transfer case output seal leaking - was replaced 2 years ago as well. Again, I suspect I can do this myself
Front left shock weeping - have sent a mail to Oz for their thoughts - but probably need to replace fairly soonish. Wonder if they can be re-built?
ATF needs replaced - WTF - it's meant to last for 100,000 miles - how do the figure that one out?? :wtf:
Front brake disks corroded and need replaced at next pad replacement

I'm surprised the fancy ToughDog shock is leaking at 2 years and not a heck of a lot of miles. And some monkey has over-tightened some wheel nuts along the way somewhere. :icon-twisted:

But I guess it's mostly corrosion-related - Scottish salty roads doing their bit to lighten my wallet :icon-confused:

Oh yes - total cost including MOT was just over £400

I've only done just about 5100 miles in a year, so that's fairly extreme :x Bugger.

That's not fun :(

Sad not on the wheel studs - when I had my two front hubs replaced they could not get the studs out of the old ones. They're press fitted and with the hub off, they could not remove them. Maybe they did not have a real BFH?

The caliper kit is a simple job (I have a thread somewhere with it). Only pig was getting the piston out of one of the cylinders. It was seized solid. Have a piece of steel ready to weld onto the piston and pry it out that way. (Thanks to Dave for that one!)
I have a spare piston if you want. It's not new and has a tiny brown spot where the piston was exposed. said spot would clean up with wire wool and I don't think actually travels past the seal so will be ok. I replaced as I had bought 4 new ones anyway.

I had two new disks on the front but I suspect this was changed by PO due to the seized caliper and overheated brake. In the 60k-odd I did, there was a small ridge - normal really. Odd that yours are bad....

No comment on the other things. :(
Actually, a guy that I work with has a weeping output seal on his 120; quoted £250 by MR-T for replacing it (mostly labour)

that sucks Gary. mine on 80k, had it from new and the only issue I had was a leaking water pump which eventually resulted in a overheating on the M25. Still on orig disks and second sets of pads. oh and the leaking cv boots from last service. I do need to rebuild the front calipers as they are sticking a bit, but thats gotta be the salt on the roads.

From memory I dont recall you doing any extreme off roading/mud plugging?

Done some, not a lot really, and don't go launching boats. So it can only be the heavy salt doses the roads get up here. Grrr.

All in all though, after 7 harsh environment years, not too bad. Could be worse (and they're out gritting tonight, so it's started already, and not even November yet  )

salty roads shouldn't be causing sticking pistons, they're not exposed to the external environment unless their protective boots have failed. Can't see salt causing transfer output seal failure in just 2 years either. All that climbing in the Pyrenees last year might have done for your ATF though :icon-wink:

Thats the strangest list ever ?

I was told, not just once, but twice, that the ATF was in for "LIFE".
And unless there was a changing gear, or slippage problem, then "LIFE" was termed to be 500,000 miles.

I asked them at about 235,000 to change the ATF, and they looked at me in disbelief, that I wanted it changing.

I wouldn't say so.
I have pulled our twin axle all over Europe.
Over the Alps twice, over the central Apennines, quite often, the only place to overtake slower cars, is on the up gradients of the hills, which when the loud pedal is squashed she hauls that TA at 70 mph plus up the hills in EU to overtake.

how long have your Toughdog suspension been on for?

ATF will need replacing if it has been worked hard or got very hot, regardless of what the dealer says.
especially on the steep offroad trails in the mountains

I am pretty sure AndrewT got the ATF changed in his LC4 this summer

I find the transmission seals often leak after fording rivers or deep muddy pools, seems to get some grit in them more easily and causes weeping.

hope you can get it all sorted within 3 weeks Gary - did it pass the MOT? i.e. are these fails or advisorys?

good luck with the work

very annoying!

At road speeds you have lots of cooling but off road at slow speed soon warms it up.

Gra - the shocks have been on for almost 2 years, which is good as there is a 2 year warranty. he guys in Aus have already got back to me with a request for more info, so I have to say I'm really impressed with them - their service has always been outstanding!

Andy - MOT passed no probs - these were advisories, in some instances. So just work to be done, and not really urgent, and I'll get around to it post mid-November :icon-biggrin:

What is interesting is the worksheet that came back - or rather, the 'technician checklist'. It's entitled 'Vehicles following 10k/20k Service Intervals'. There is a box with a set of checks with the vehicle on a hoist - the first is 'Check AT/CVT transmission oil level (non dipstick type) - every 4 years of 40,000 miles' - I have an 'R' in the check box which translates to 'Replaced'. I then have a charge for 4 litres of ATF. I also have an 'R' in the 'Replace front and rear differential oil' so I need to check volumes, because 4 litres of ATF sounds weird now :-)

Also been charged for two different oil filters, and I can't track the part numbers down:

T90915-YZZJ3
T90915-30002-8T

Any ideas?

The rest of the service etc. seems pretty normal - air filter, cabin air filter, alarm remote battery, engine oil, etc.

yep - I'm waiting for more opinions here, then I'm going to phone them and see what's going on :?

PS - not paid for it yet, so I have a bit of bargaining power

lol Jon - Incorrect filter removed: T90915-YZZJ3

and the 4litres of ATF is apparently all the gearbox has - and it's supposed to be replaced at 60k? I'm not convinced ... The diff oil was included in the service price (but motor oil isn't???). Strange ...

I'll be digging out my fine-tooth comb later to check it all I think :wtf:
