I was thinking of getting a Hannibal purely because it doesn't need supporting poles , is there a Foxwing that doesn't need poles? having cover at the rear would be good.

Yep Chas, that was my primary reason for opting for the Hannibal. Able to reposition the truck if needed without having to "unpeg" etc.. I may be wrong, but I think African outback may do a similar Fox that also desn't need poles...but it looks too unstable to me. Doily may know better??

how often do you need to reposition the truck when the awning is out? The big coverage of the fox wing and the option of extension panels covers most but not all eventualities.

Ah yes that's the one. From what I remember, it's quite a large structure that's bolted to the rack. Looked pretty ungainly and you're right quite massively built.


@JW.... The issue with any awning / tented arrangement that needs poles and guys, is just too static. A simple change in wind direction can be a real irritation. Set up one way and want a diff view from the RTT , same again, need more privacy..... Etc etc..

Arf Arf, if only that were true Crispin. If we'd managed to drop a waffle in before that back wheel faced up against that slab, I wouldn't have had to get the winch out at that point. I did try winching off a rock and it nearly worked. Maybe if the driver had been a couple of pounds lighter, it might have pulled the truck out instead.

I thought that the caption might have been, "after years of trying, Chris finally pulls!"

Funniest thing I heard was when Ben was stuck on the rocks, he was just letting it down off the high lift jack when Robert, Stevens young son asked Chris if Ben was "Jacking off"

Weather was great Gra. At times it felt like a summers day.

The only damage I got all weekend was from driving into that big muddy hole.

This is one of the reasons i dont go to pay n play's. I cant trust myself not to do stupid things like that.

Id love to go to the next one, as its always such a great weekend.

But im really hoping I will be in OZ by then.

Met some really great people through this club, so one of the first things I will do when I get over there will be to join some 4x4 clubs.
