LJ70 Build Thread!

Ben , I have only ever heard bad things about trail gear, very noisy when fitted and have a habit of braking the r and p's in reverse under load, look up a company called nitro, they cost the same as trail gear but have far greater feed back. Hope this helps and good luck with the move, I would be in oz tomorrow giving the chance to .

Thanks.

When I get some time I will look into whats available. :icon-smile:

So far I know Trail Gear, Nitro, and Yukon all do 8" Toyota ring and pinion sets. Any others?

Add Man-A-Fre to your list. They are based in California.

I had a look at that double bead locked Hummer wheel string and it is very informative. Just one point, why did he feel the need to locate the tyre beads into the wheel rim with a blast of air when the internal bead lock has already done it for him?

Ben

With your fabrication skills, this should be well within your limits and should give you some ideas for a competition truck. Also makes for a great read[1].

Not sure I could cut my body work after I've done so much work on it.

Few more options for me to think about then.

Wonder which ones strongest?

My 1KZ-T engine is out of a 4-runner which is IFS. This means that the sump is smaller than those 1KZ-T fitted in live axle vehicles.

My sump has also got a very rusty section which looks so bad that I'm worried that if I poke it my finger will go through.

I managed to source the 1KZ-T sump from the KZJ70 that I got the roof from. (Thanks Johnie )

This will give my engine a bigger oil capacity which I think can only be a good thing.

Been busy the last few days making sure everything is ready for export.

Took the hitch off the trailer so that it can be pushed up tight against the back of the lorry.

I also added a load of 8mm headed tec screws to give the tyres a bit more grip.

 Never seen it looking so clean Ben, I suppose the next time we see it it will be covered in Australian mud

Woah.. Your prep has shot by, Ben! Its been great following your move.

Hope all the travel and shipping goes well!

Thanks guys.

No unfortunately not Chas.

Got all the hassle of customs and quarantine inspectors to look forward to, and then the hassle of trying to register a modified vehicle in OZ.

But in the end its going to all be worth it!

I hope.

Container is coming at 10AM and I've then got 3 hours to get it loaded, if I go over the 3 hours its £75 per hour.

Just hope the trailer works as a suitable ramp.

This time next week I should be in OZ! :happy-bouncyblue:

Good Luck Ben!

Give me a shout if you need any contacts for getting it Engineered; I'll put you in touch with the guys I know in Melbourne.

We had a good conversation with a friend last night, which was promising for work for the GF... just need to talk to someone else now to get more information about it all... Her not having work was her biggest worry; the problem is that one of us could have an hour commute, the other 20 minutes... need to work that out a bit more!

We've decided that we're setting aside May to get stuff tidied up here; we won't have the mission of exporting a car (only got to sell it instead...)

Thanks Ed.

I need to find a suitable car to pick up in a weeks time. I was thinking of getting something cheap, like the one you posted the link to (Hyundai I think it was).
But really I want another 4x4, as it will be useful when I clear my stuff through customs as then I can hire a big trailer and trailer it all to my new house.

So I'm thinking another SWB 70, something like this:-

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toyota-L...Cars&hash=item460c34b1ab&_uhb=1#ht_2104wt_932

Or a 40, 60, 80 or Hi-lux.

Poor exchange rate and the fact cars arnt cheap in OZ means I've only really got a budget of about $5000.

Ideally I want a diesel, but would consider petrol/LPG.

I was looking at an FJ70 for sale on Philip Island. :icon-cool:

So if you spot any suitable trucks let me know.

Ideally in Vic as travelling interstate might be tricky.

Know of a belter of a Commo for $1600+rego if you get really stuck! Hyundais gone now...

How did the Container loading go Ben.

When exactly and where are flying out of the UK from - I just need to conact HM Customs!!

Bit of a sore point the container Brett. Having a few problems. :icon-cry:

Will update later. :icon-wink:

Fly on the 31st. :icon-cool:

Good luck Ben. Have sent hours following your thread. I am sure you will keep us entertained from down under

Thanks guys.

Just spent hours writing and update and the f***ing netbook crashed and I lost it all!

Ice cold Peroni awaits so will try and update tomorrow now. Last night out tonight, and after the day I've had I really need it.
