I found a Hilux LSD for my LJ70 and it is completely compatible. I know that it does not substitute diff lock but price is much more reasonable.

Do you think it will differ the offroad performance a lot?

it is worth checking out http://www.china4x4extreme.com/

They have the HF airlocker, a chinese branded ARB diff, less then half the cost of a ARB.. I bought 2 lockers with 2 compressors for my landcruiser for under €1.000! I have had them in the car for almost a year now, and no problems at all! So def. worth checking out! Also, lifetime warranty on parts, you only have to pay the shipping cost..

Parts numbers is exactly the same as ARB, even the diffs ;)

The Toyota LSD's dont work very well and wont give you much/any more traction off road!

The air lockers Victor linked to sound good, but if that is still too expensive you could fit a lockrite/detroit/truetrac auto locker fairly cheaply and that would work well off road! :icon-biggrin:

I had these installed on my KZJ70 EATON TRUETRACS 1 x 913A610 (REAR) & 1 x 913A609 (FRONT). I believe they should fit an LJ70 so long as it has a LSD. Total cost less than one arb locker!

Where did those come from then have you got a link or contact? Thanks

http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com ask for Sandy if you email or contact them. If I had seen this sooner I could have fetched one back from the states. I was only there yesterday.

you will pay carriage and import duty but still not that bad price wise. No machining required just utilise your existing carrier bearings fit and forget!

Thank you all for the suggestions, the lockers really seem to be better to buy.
I'll go with one of these lockers.

I have one question to Yorkshire Devil, this does not seem to be an air locker. It is a continuous locker (always locked) right?

The truetrac isn't a diff lock but a mechanical LSD, much better than the standard Toyota LSD but not as good as a diff lock

IMHO the only 2 negatives in fitting 1 (or 2) of these is they can be noisy on the road when doing slow tight turns, when they can go bang quite loudly from time to time and the fact that its always locked off road when sometimes having an open diff would be an advantage.

But then their massively cheaper than air lockers and probably more reliable as in you can fit and forget about them and not suffer from air leaks which can obviously stop air lockers from working. You can also go off road and not have to think, shall I put the lockers in or not as their always in. :icon-ugeek:

If I was to do my build again I wouldn't fit any of the lockers mentioned in this thread, I'd be going for these, as I'm sick of my ARB air lockers leaking air. :icon-cool:

The Detroit Truetrac is silent in operation and does not make any clicking or ratcheting sounds when used on or off roads or going slowly round corners. I run one in the front & rear and speak from experience and 4000 miles of use. This is a fit & forget solution requiring no machining or purchasing different sized bearings.

The above forum member 'Ben' user clearly has no experience running a Truetrac and is possibly getting confused with the other types of lockers.

Please see extract http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/ProductsServices/Vehicle/Differentials/detroit-truetrac/index.htm

I watched the videos of Truetrac, it looks like the Torsen Differential fitted on new 2015 land cruisers. I thank you again for your suggestion. Although the Chinese locker is also very cheap, the Truetrac seems to be higher in quality.

The Truetracs are a non aggressive locker and they work automatically when they need to. Theres no airline, compressor, electrics or different size bearings to use.

It's a fit and forget solution. The truetrac is a quality build components in the states with and failures are far and few between.

Where's a good place to buy those Eaton Detroit Truetrac diffs? I can't find them for 70 series fitment, which I believe is 9.5" diff

Depends, if its an lj70, kzj70, rj70 then its an 8" diff same as a hilux rear diff, the 9.5" came in the heavy duty 70's
