my grey 80

Found him already fortunately - Jon has all the bits ready to go in and hopefully in 2 weeks it'll be good as new!!

Gordon Zola! That's a shocker Gary. I've done both back arches on both my Cruisers and that's worse than the lot put together. Entirely fixable of course. But Arrrggghhh!

Sorry to ask a historic question, but what rear fog lights (page 6) do you have there and where did you get them?

I am looking for a slim line rear fog for my truck.

Many thanks.

Got them from an eBay seller called boltonbits. Not the cheapest but very good

Thanks Jon.

Jon fitted one on the spare wheel carrier. I have a cover so moved it and out in a 2nd one too from the supplier he originally used. Very nice and bright.

Amazing what you can do with a bit of newspaper and a skim of filler  Bit more paint and it should be good for a few more months

Cheeky blighter!!

Damn that looks good for papier maché - no lumps or anything ;)

Thanks Jon - impressive as ever

So got the 80 back from Dr Jon. What an amazing job he's done :)

Decided while it was all stripped out to make it a bit quieter and cooler in the back so 1 box of SilentCoat from eBay later ....

Hope it does what it's supposed to do ;)

It's really high with no weight in the back at all - no bumper, spare wheel, fuel or storage system...

Yes but is it any quieter Gary?

Not driven it yet with the tin foil. It was loads quieter last night with no holes in it. And drier too with no leaks either :)

I'm afraid you'll be disappointed Gary. This is vibration isolation and it is stage one of atleast two stages to sound proof your vehicle or details of it like in your case. Silent Coat vibration isolation is made out of butyl. It is eather 4mm or 2mm thick. I put 4mm on the floor and 2mm in the vertical places such as doors. The reason to go 2mm . on the doors is because the butyl sheets are very heavy. The weight of my isolation is about 45kg.+ other materials on top. I use 10mm foam type waterproof sound isolation in 85% of the truck and in some places eather 6mm or 20mm in the back. However the job you've done is a good start. The idea of soundproof is to go layers of different materials. Different material covers different frequency.

P.s.The photos are from the two trucks I've done recently. Just to illustrate the different materials I've used.

Oh well... Its a start, right? Got to say though it does make a big difference already - and let's face it an 80 Series with 3" straight through exhaust and 19 years of use plus chunky tyres is never going to be totally silent inside as in the executive class. But it's less reverby than it was and that's a good thing :)

Could do with some of that sort of underfelt though - the poor old carpet's backing is pretty much history ;)

I used something similar years ago in my escort, made a big difference to background noise with only one layer. I'm sure you'll notice a difference

Can't say that mine is noisy to start with.

all the noise is muffled by your bacon supplies

With severe tinnitus I have no need for any extra constant background noise ;) so anything I can do to at least reduce it in the truck I will :)

Decided to go veggie and T total for the trip Mark. So no bacon I'm afraid.
