My Lj70 '86 from Italy

Hello to all
This holiday I have worked hard :D

I started installing again front lights and new led rear light.

This was the easy thing, let's start with something more interesting:

New springs from HM4x4 +6cm and front axle rebuild

IMG_8652_600x800.JPG IMG_8657_1067x800.JPG IMG_8659_1067x800.JPG IMG_8662_1067x800.JPG IMG_8667_600x800.JPG

IMG_8738_1067x800.JPG

It was a long work (2 days) but now i'm very happy
No more leaks and now with the new springs car is more comfortable.

After that I changed 4wd bulb, that doesn't work anymore (here you have the code, if someone need it)

IMG_8670_600x800.JPG IMG_8741_1067x800.JPG IMG_8742_600x800.JPG

And the last thing was a "joke": I tried to cover my steering wheel with a leather buyed on aliexpress, 1h to complete it, but now i'm very happy :D

Looks like some good progress there!

All the jobs you have done have also been done on my LC, or are waiting to be done.

Hope you also get some time to enjoy driving it. Please post pics if you do as I like seeing all the different driving conditions around the world.

Nice work.

How does it handle on such huge springs?

I imagine the castor must be affected quite a bit.

Please, please, please invest in a pair of axle stands before you do a big job like an axle rebuild again. working under a trolley jack (even with the standard jack there as well) is bloody dangerous and I'd hate for you to get seriously injured or killed by your 70. :shifty:

Thanks Ako!
yes, :D I also drive it, but 90% of the time, I forget to make some photos....

Hi Ben!
Yes, you are right...I have it, but are too low for my lj...I have to buy a new set of stands!

New springs are incredible, because are high like the old one (+5cm vs +6cm) but they are progressive: the first part of the spring is really soft, and the second part is more hard... So during the driving car is confortable but don't roll too much, and copy the terrain very well during off road.

About the caster my front axle is different from the square headlight: with round headlight, with 2'' lift you don't have to modify your caster angle, My problem now are the panhards, I have to change or modify it...

P.s. Please, keep forgiving my "English" :D :D

Last saturday, I went at work with my lj and at the end of the day I changed my front diff oil (last part of my axle rebuild :) ) and installed a little boost controller on wastegate and turned my lda to the max...now turbo runs with 0.8 Bar boost only at high rpm (stock was 0,6 bar)

Then I tried the mobility with new springs and I see a good difference from old ones

Today I'm still awaiting the documents from MTO after my new homologations, and tomorrow is the last day of my "permission to use it" and the 20th of october I have a 4x4 meeting, I hope to solve this situation!

At the same time I'm working about VGT turbo, I found a intecooler the could fit in front of water radiator...I'll work about it after the meeting, because surelly I must stop my car.

ps. Maybe I have to edit my signature on forum = "excuse for my bad english :D "

Cool truck mate, looking good, don't worry about your English, it's better than mine, and I'm English

Hello mate!
Excelent progress!!!
Can you tell me about boost controler on wastegate, do make a good job on turbo performance? And where you bought it?
Best Regards
Saluti da Montenegro!

Hello Bobo
Thanks for your answer!

The boost controller is this: https://it.aliexpress.com/item/HB-U...32708111571.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.eFFnkG

Ct20 is a limited turbo, but with a mod on LDA now car have a good torque. Boost is adjustable, so you need a turbo gauge, and you could test your best performance. I believe that 0.9 bar is the max for ct20 turbo without have any problem

@white90 thanks a lot :D :D You make me smile :D

@Animal Mother thank you too :)
I understand
Thank You

Hello!
Some little update!
I have been 2 days in Maggiora, one of biggest 4x4 meeting in North Italy, more than 5 Km of off road street with different difficulty.

There was a lot of cars and people! Some trucks was really wonderful!

IMG_9265_1067x800.JPG IMG_9273_1067x800.JPG IMG_9274_1067x800.JPG IMG_9288_1067x800.JPG IMG_9290_1067x800.JPG IMG_9293_600x800.JPG

Here some repairs at my friend's suzuki. IMG_9312_1067x800.JPG IMG_9314_1067x800.JPG IMG_9315_1067x800.JPG

This is the end of two days of off road, I'm very happy of new springs, they work very good, car have a really good mobility and traction! I have done a lot of difficult pass, that I can't image. I have only took a tree during a "hard pass"....nothing important, only a good souvenir :)
IMG_9330_1067x800.JPG IMG_9331_600x800.JPG IMG_9332_1067x800.JPG IMG_9339_1067x800.JPG

Sorry for my few photos, I'm not usually to make a lot of photos, or ask to other people to make me it for me, I have some video I'll try later to upload it ;)

I bet that was good trip, how you made that damage on the roof?

Yes, wonderful trip...

about the damage, it was a really difficult pass, between a lot of tree and twists were very deep, without rear locker I have to do the twist with a minimum speed and when I came into the deeper twist, i took a tree...but I have done it :D

Hello to all!!

This saturday I have had some free time, so I made some modification

I started removing rear diff for ARB install
IMG_9452_1280x960.JPG IMG_9453_1280x960.JPG IMG_9458_1280x960.JPG IMG_9461_1280x960.JPG IMG_9462_1280x960.JPG

It look really good...but oil was a little bit dirty, I think that water or mud could pass from axle shafts...I need to change seals.

After that I worked about winch installation... I have not Ben ability with iron and welding so it was a hard job for me :D :D
IMG_9463_1280x960.JPG

But at the end I was very happy for me result:

IMG_9466_1280x960.JPG IMG_9467_1280x960.JPG

Now I have only to fix cables position, insert new hooks and work about front bumper position...because now is a little bit higher and is too near at fenders...

But I like the result:

IMG_9469_1280x960.JPG IMG_9470_1280x960.JPG IMG_9471_1280x960.JPG

And on sunday, my friend installed new ARB diff. It's too difficult for me, I prefer that a professionist make it for me:

IMG_9500.JPG IMG_9502.JPG IMG_9503.JPG IMG_9506.JPG

Now is ready to come back on LJ :D

I hope I could have some free time on next saturday so I could finish my job :D

See you soon!

Hello!!

This saturday I have had a lot of work, so it was difficult to proceed on my job.

However the rear diff come back on Lj and compressor was fitted

I need also to rotate compressor so blue tube will be not visible but i need a solution to use tyre inflator...I'll think about it.

Now I need only to decide where put my arb switchs and connect +12 and ground to the battery

I need to finish it next week because on 26th november I have a nice trip with a Club ;)

See you soon my friends

Looking really good yota and its getting much more capable. Will the front diff be getting an air locker too one day?
What other mods are planned?

I don't know about front locker...I'll try this configuration and decide later about it!

Mods...a lot, but money & time nowaday is few :D

Surely I'll make a rear bumper and footboards ( WIP)

Great pics.

Did you get to use the new locker, or is the installation not finished yet? :shifty:

You are going to love the locker! It gives you instant traction at the flick of a switch! :icon-twisted:
