My Lj70 '86 from Italy

Really thanks Ben!

I need only to rotate my compressor, insert a grill and make a support for my switchS...I don't like my solution at now, but is just working.

I've tested only a little bit on the snow that was really freezed, after that I don't need the locker for this trip...I'll test it better :D

Hello!
Last saturday we went on mountain, one of my friend needed help. The previous week too much snow and ice, and he remained blocked into a tree so he had to come back home without car!
Naturally car didn't start easer after one week with cold temperature, but after 1.5 hours of work we recovered it!
Like always I didn't make much photos...I know...but sun & snow was really incredible

Hello my friends

Happy new year to all!!

We went back on the mountain, amazing views, a lot of km between snow and a little bit of mud

But I see that there was a big problem on the roof.. RUST is going forward inside the ROOF!

In 2 places there was only the paint...if I touch the paint a make a hole!!!

First think was eliminate the hole but I see that the rust is INSIDE....

Now I have eliminate exterior rust...and closed the hole with grout, but I know that inside the rust is killing my roof...

Can I solve my problem from interior, unmonting the upper coating or I need to cut?

Great photos you've posted yota, I love to see snow in the forest especially with a Cruiser doing what it does best amongst the trees!

As for your roof, I get the impression that you'll be chasing holes until the whole roof eventually crumbles.

Patching up is one thing, holding it back as it becomes evident, but I would have thought the only real solution would be to find another roof panel complete, either off a scrap donor vehicle (accident write-off or similar) or sourced as a 'new' body panel.

Prior to fitting, you could apply treatment to stop the same thing happening again, presumably from excessive condensation from the inside.

Of course, replacing it (gutter-to-gutter all around) will need the skills of an auto panel 'expert' but I would have thought you could do this yourself with care and some basic welding skills.

Hi friend from Torino.
Your renovation activities wth LJ70 are impressive. My case is nearly identical, but I bought LJ70 in Slovenia a year later than you - november 2017. Now I am starting to put some new life in my car and would like to have some suggestions from you. We live relatively close (comparing to main folks - Aussies) only 600km away and in similar Alpine environment. I wish you great trips and enyoj your nice car.

Thanks Clive, but you solution cost too much!!! I'll think seriusly about it.

I have also tried new led light as fog light...but I'm not happy....really nice to see, but not a good light in the dark...

Hello!!

This saturday was amazing!
You can't image how many snow I have found!

I have not time to change my wheels with extreme and cooper stt 31x10.50 wasn't the top in the snow.

During the climb hill I have to stay with 2nd gear at 3500-4000 rpm, rear locker, if not I can't move!

And at the end, one of my friends remained blocked and I followed him you trying to save him :) 1 hour to solve the situation :D :D Luckly another

Really nice trip....but very tired at the end :D

Yes Ben! I see that my message was interruped, I don't why....
Luckly other jeepers helped us :D

I can't explain how I felt when it became dark and cold, cars blocked, winch tired because stock battery have not enough power to do more than three shoot....thank goodness that all ended good :)

Now I thinking about dual battery or AGM battery...

This saturday after work, I made a fast service on my Lj, fuel filter & prefilter, air and oil filter + 6lt of motul 10w40.

There been two days that was snowing...but at the afternoon...sun goes up...so why don't we go and see how mauch snow there are now?

Only an easy trip, because snow & sun was really incredible, so a fast call to some friends and we started in 4 cars.

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-03 at 16.23.57.jpeg

The sun helped a lot us, because snow was really soft, so we can proceed without problems...until the suzuki started having problem with clutch cable...
WhatsApp Image 2018-03-04 at 20.38.06.jpeg

Solved his problem with a 1/4 tube on cable & tape we arrived at a crossroads were I can't remember the right road, so we decided to follow the easer way...

but...

more meters we had made....more trees we seen, and more climbs we had...

we try to come back, but there was too much snow to exit from the track...so we tried to go forward...

MAGR3650_720x960.JPG IMG_0796_1280x960.JPG

The track became really hard...and with a side slope that mixed with the ice under the snow was really difficult go forward.. This was the first time I had really tested my rear ARB, because some time there were some twist so deeper than me rear wheel touch the body of the car!

Toyota pass the difficult pass without big problem...but my other friends have some trouble

So we had to work with ropes & shovels

Solved this situation (1 hour of work :D ) last car remain blocked in a difficult situation (we don't made photos of it too much worry about it :) )

But like always it became dark :D

Well...at the end...we arrived all at home...but just a little bit tired :D

Great to see the lj in action Yota. Looks like a good project to beef up the electrics for the winch

Great thread Yota !
Love these old landcruisers looks like your making great progress with yours.
I have the square head lamp version but converted to round head lamp front like yours, it’s work in progress.
Your trips look awesome, you have great places for trips in Italy !
Looking forward to seeing your updates on your truck and trips.

Thanks Ben! I can't decide what to do...Now I'am thinking about alternator: original is 50ah power...with external regulator...I have a astra/isuzu 1.7 alternator, 110ah with intern regulator...but installation is really different. However now I don't have enough time to do all I must do! :D

I have buyed original front bushes for lower arms, but I don't have open the package and I haven't install steering box yet...

Hi Shaun, thanks for your message! Yes I love round head lamp...really nice conversion ;)

About my trip, we didn't make long trip...but we are lucky because we can made it during the saturday afternoon after work ;)

This saturday we made it too, we have found some new track...with some difficult pass...perfect track for suzuki and smaller cars, but too close for my lj and defender :D :D...in a pass Def killed a superios glass on a tree

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-10 at 23.20.02.jpeg

I have also get a oak of a tree in the rubber heel :D :D
