Hi. Newbie, sorry! Just picked up a 2001 SWB D4D GX Land Cruiser. I have plans for it, mostly to fit our camping gear.
My question is, I want to fit slightly bigger, wider tyres. The standard skinny 215 do not look big enough, however I can't raise the overall height of the vehicle by more than 6cm, or it won't fit in my underground parking. What can I fit on the standard rims?

They seem quite skinny alright. Standard fitment is 265/70/16 on the GX . The FX without the side mouldings has a narrower track and the skinny tyres.

The Mrs has the same truck and i would say your money would be better spent on wheel spacers .

Best tyres i've seen on a standard truck are Cooper STT 265/75 16

Spacers would probably help, but I have a friend who will sell me a set of standard steel wheels for 50€. So a second set of tyres is a good choice, as for the anual technical inspection the car will have to have the standard tyres, as listed on the car document. I'm in Spain.

Hi Dieseldragon , I have a 99 RV6 95 series standard fitment was 215x80x16 tyres on 16x6 rims , it currently has 120 series 17x6 steel rims with 235x65x17 tyres , my next set of AT tyres will probably be 235x70x17 this is as big as you can go on 6" rims , its a way of giving yourself a bigger foot print with out having to add flares to the guards ..cheers Mick

Thanks for that. I can't go much bigger diameter as my underground garage has height of 2m. The standard fitment on the GX is 215. Maybe it was standard in Spain, different in UK. I see VX spec with much bigger tyres on alloy wheels.

The model badges don't seem to be the same everywhere. Every GX that was sold in Ireland had 265 width tyres as standard. Perhaps the spec was different in the Spanish market..

On another note, my LWB truck will fit underneath a 2m barrier with roof bars on... Just about, but it will, even when empty.. measured 1.97m last time I looked. That's with the 265/70/16.

I was just thinking my swb 90 is 2m tall with 285/75 tyres + 2" body lift + 2" suspension lift .
