James.
I have rebuilt one, getting it on and off is no problem, only thing to watch
is getting the pulley off the front and also make sure you catch the PS
fluid (best to drain out the PS fluid from one of the pipes first otherwise
you get in lots of trouble like me for getting it all over the drive
(Doh!!!). The pulley is difficult in that not all pullers can get on it.
Apart from that it is no problem. To rebuild it (including getting it off
and on took about 1 1/2 hours so no major issue.
To bleed, you need to fill the reservoir, then turn the steering full lock
each way slowly a few times, then check the level and top up and then do it
again. It should be bled once you have done around 10 - 15 turns each way.
Not sure whether the new pump will come with a pulley, if so then it is an
absolute doddle. There is an O ring around the front where it mounts in the
front plate of the engine. Also you should get some new copper washers for
the banjo joints on the PS pipes. Also you may want while you are doing this
to replace the standard clips on the end of the flexible parts of the pipes
- the standard crimped ones loosen up and the joints will sweat. Replace
them with standard small jubilee clips.
