If i was going so far from civilisation breaking down would mean death i would take the oldest 6x6 truck i could get . Back in the 1950's precision parts meant an inch and a bit either way . No fancy electronics and no frills . You could actually carry every mechanical part in the back . I remember watching a 4x4 competion when i was a kid , they had Unimogs , army vehicles and all sorts , the fire brigade actually took part using a 6 wheel RangeRover . The drummer from Status Quo happened to be there in something like this and spent all day rescuing each and every other vehicle in turn . The entire course may as well have been as flat as a football pitch to him .
