Rockslider and winch mount wants enquiry

Thanks Ed

have to say you surprise me requiring any need to trim anything on the mount as I had yours actually bolted to mine prior to sending. I am currently in the process of writing an 'How to Fit Guide' so all comments certainly welcomed at this point.

When fitting I fitted the mount then fitted the winch to it once fitted, have to say you must have arms like Garth to lift the thing complete with winch  must have weighed around 40kgs all in

mine seemed to have a 2-3mm flang on the end of the chassis rails, so I just trimmed that back, and after bending in the sides of the sump guard it fitted up really nicely. I had to wire brush the ends and re-paint them anyway so that was no biggy, it was the careful grinding of the welds on the end caps that took ages.... only to find the bolt and the back plate fell off

with a quick look, it didn't look like the winch would fit after mounting the plate, though I didn't look that hard. Mine still has the solenoid pack on (I think I read that you re-located yours) but yes, it was very heavy, and I swore a lot when the littlun dropped the bolt! it took a second attempt to get it on there and my back ached for several days afterwards. It's all very cosy in there, but tucked away nicely and quite discreet. though rope and an ally fairelead would make it even more discreet!

Drove it for the first time yesterday since fitting it all and she feels a fair bit heavier at the front now, but the suspension is not so harsh as it was (had heavy springs at the front fitted).

nice work nad nice design..but 2 suggestions..
the winch mount has a very big surface so is impossible to work there if something happens to the wire or brake for example the bolt that holds in the wire to the drum...what would you do if you dont have a gut access?
and for the rock sliders you must reinforced the grips tha keep them to the chassis..these small u-bolts are only for the beauty and not offers a serious protection on a real rock hit..(because the rest of the construction is heavy duty ..its like a giant that stands on a pair of small size shoes)

i had to grind similar flange of end chassis rail on my colorado, to fit the TBR mount I bought off Chris.
but my colorado appears to have had a frontal bump at some stage in its history

Chris, the design does mean there isnt a lot of exoposed winch you are correct, thats the way i wanted them, the bumper cover can be removed in 10 minutes so dont see it as a problem, afterall I wanted them to be an 'hidden winch mount' that is what I have achieved, but do take on board what you mean.

Not sure what you are trying to say with regards to the rocksliders U bolts ??? I dont have them i use a sandwich plate on the chassis ??? I am an engineer by trade and by this I mean I build specialist truck bodies, I can assure you the design is more than upto the job and I am sure this will be clarified by the guys that get them. I have run the chassis mount through a finite element analysis and it is well with any design requirements for the application

about the rock sliders U-bolts...its difficult to believe that if a force (from a rock) push vertically the rock slider suddenly and brashly that the 2 nuts will keep the load...probably will brake the U-bolt..and if you make the same thing to the rock slider with the sandwich plates i dont believe that this will brake anywhere...because the force will share everywhere.
of course if your point is to brake there and not transfer the force to the chassis to cause bigger damage then you have right ...

hi Chris

Thats my point I dont have U bolts :? :? , I am using 2 bolts top and bottom of the chassis flange (very tight fitting) through 2 sandwich plates either side of the chassis. I have had mine on for around 8 months and they havent budged, the only issue I had was the tree slider tube bent slightly when i dropped sideways into a very deep bombhole, to over come this I have changed the way the tree slider is fixed to the box, one thing for sure it wont happen again  .

Above all they are made from steel, they will bend if you try hard enough, and I mean hard. They certainly aernt indestrucable otherwise they would weigh about 5 times what they do or cost about 4 times as much. They wont move onnthe chassis rail and they wont come loose, unless the guy that fits them doesn't tighten them in the first place:snooty:

I am not sure what you are saying with the link you put up, what is for sure is the fixing method I am using is far stronger than the one on the link, the folds in the mount on the link will straighten out for sure and allow the slider to come loose on the rail.

Any how I am sure the guys that have them will keep us informed and if there is a method of improvement to overcome any issues that arise I will be more than happy to address them.

I have a set of couple of sets of sliders and a couple of winch mounts still available off the shelf, both have costed and non coated available

Also have a next day courier sorted now aswell

hopefully a few guys besides Evil Ed will post theres fitted shortly to show you what they are like, especially the costed ones

I used mine in anger last week and I have to say did the job nicely, I was pulling the green oval not the other way round

There must be something about that spot and Discoverys. We had to winch an abandoned one out of the way on Sunday morning as it was bound to get hit sooner or later by someone sliding into it (actually, it was a few yards back, immediately after the river crossing). Looked like they''d got themselves stuck the night before and given up all attempts to move it (straps and stuff hanging around). God knows why they didn't wait till morning and get help from the first group that passed.

silly as it seems it could end up getting Strata closed if people keep falling in it

There's too much off-piste action as well, which is really frustrating. You can get stuck in mud anywhere, but these tracks are few and far between.

While I'm on, are you making any more winch mounts? I'd like one!

Bit of a holy thread revival, but I'd like to get my hands on a set of the rock sliders and wanted to know lead time and delivery costs.

Tried making contact through the K4Designs website without much luck, so this will have to do

sorry matey all gone and not enough movement to make it worth making anymore, the first ones went like hot cakes but as I am sure you are aware not too many use these things off the beaten track so movement is slow and not worth my initial outlay, time is an issue aswell

sorry K4 site should have updated but hasnt

No worries mate, thanks for the reply. Time to crack the welder out then!

I have box sections cut and encapped, I may have a couple of chassis mount plates left if you want me to check
