Hi All,
Thanks again to all those that managed to make it down to Salisbury
yesterday, it was a great turn out and whether you were hardened green
laners or travel weary overlanders it certainly looked like you all
enjoyed yourself.
My overriding impression of the day was that there just wasn't enough
time for people to mix properly or check out each others' vehicles.
It is evident that most of you that came were intersted in overlanding
and I counted at least six in the group who have done the UK to South
Africa run (some more than once) and on the other hand we had five to
six of you interested in doing the trip.
It just goes to show that there is a lot of knowledge and experience
that can be exchanged between us all.
I'll certainly try to organise another Salisbury trip in the spring.
Next summer I will also try to organise a weekend event at an off road
centre where people can either come for just one off the days or come
and camp for the whole weekend. It should give us a lot more time to
socialise and the chance to do more things like a hog roast (or nut
roast for the vegies) on the Saturday night.
A weekend event will also give us more time to learn more about each
others travels, vehicles, etc as well as put on side shows like driver
training for beginners, workshops, etc.
Ideally I would like to attract at least 50 TLCs for it.
Ambitious plans, but certainly doable. If any of you have any
ideas/suggestions on the subject, please hit me off list. The first
thing is to find a suitable venue.
