So
Today I ventured outside. Brrrrrrr!
Checked white petrol VX - the loom for the drivers seat does follow the route of the aux rear heater (as per earlier pics on this thread). Giveaway is its a lot thicker. Doddle to check - pop off the sill plate after taking the screws out.

So with that in mind I thought it would be useful to see where it goes from there. Off comes the footwell kickplate - for those who don't know how - lift up the bottom edge in the doorway where it goes over the door seal/sill plate, then pull towards back of the car. Easy.
And I was right - the bottom of the connector blocks is occupied so I can only assume that is the one. Didn't disconnect as my hands were bl00dy freezing.

Traced the other side of the connector and off it goes into the main loom. I know the seat heating fuse is in the kneehole fusebox, but I believe the electric seats one is under the bonnet.
With that in mind I can only assume that there is a different loom for the gx and vx 5 door. To add insult to injury I pinged off the centre console trans tunnel cover - the loom was there for the heated seats clipped away down the nearside.......
Now, why would the loom be there on Shayne's car and not mine when his has manual seats which has caused us a bit of confusion/diversion??
Seemples.
His is a 3 door - therefore (presumably) you would never have electric adjustment as the seats tip up so will always be manual, therefore (as far as the seats go anyway), the only difference between the GX and the VX would be heated/not heated. So therefore I would presume that for a swap of cloth to leather on a 3 door car, all you need to do is grab a heated set of front 3 dr seats, switches (£25), and chuck them in.
After what seams like a long trek, I have abandoned the thoughts of retrofitting leather unless I can somehow get a seat that are manual adjustment (perhaps a GX which had manual leather interior as an option perhaps?).
What I would say as a note of caution to anyone in a similar quandary is - if you want leather easily and need a 5 door buy a VX, but don't be shy of buying an unheated one - that part is straightforward!!!
Big thanks to all. It goes without saying, if anything concluded in this latest post by me is definitively incorrect, please do mention it. I hope my little journey with it proves useful to someone in the future
