I seen many a human do it

Very true. We call it 'scope-eye'. The wounds tend to bleed quite profusely. I have seen one guy take hit after hit. It had always happened to him and he just believed it to be part of shooting rifles. He was amazed at the difference once we taught him to put the butt in his shoulder rather than under his armpit. And he was shooting a 30-06. Turned out to be quite a good shot after that.
