Standard Exhaust Diameter

Sorry if this has been asked before but I've had a look and can't find it. What is the standard exhaust diameter, 2.25" or 2.5"?

Got a little idea I'd like to put into action.

2.25 in the main. Some squashed and bent sections are bigger, but most straight pipe is 2.25
