Ok, so I've been chasing a niggly fuelling problem around for the last while and thought I had it sorted. Well the bugger keeps coming back. I've replaced filters, cleaned fuel lines, dropped the tank, cleaned the egr and air intake and all to little avail. After some searching it appears the suction control valves an the back of the pump are the likely culprit. My local diesel specialist can supply them, but they don't come cheap - €340 for the pair.

I've tried searching online, but I'm finding conflicting information. Australian sites list one SCV, but the diesel specialist says 2 - one red, one green. I have found red/green Denso SCV here >> http://www.dieselpartsdirect.co.uk/...-scv-red-green-kit-suction-control-valves.htm but no definite answer on if they are the correct part - list Nissans. They would save me €100 including postage if they were right. I've emailed, but got no reply. Is there any way to check, or are all Denso SCVs the same?

Thanks

They're most likely the same, as Denso use the same parts on a lot of high pressure fuel pumps. I'd check the parts number to confirm as well.

Thanks Beau, I'll try to get the part no from the local suppliers to check. But getting very close to Christmas now too! Might just have to pay up!!

At the price of 340 euros, you could probably pick up a good second hand pump? But I realise this requires more work to then swap the pumps out... or just swap out the actual SCV's.

How many miles is on your engine, you're the first I've heard of those SCV's failing?

When I visited a diesel specialist earlier in the year with the Space Star they were pretty sure the issue I was having was down to suction control valves on the Denso pump as a known issue. They were replacing several each week.

When he found that the Space Star had the Renault engine in it with Bosch injection he said they don't go so started looking elsewhere.

I try to read all 90 series posts in the hope i will learn to recognize symptoms before they become a problem and iirc the SCV has been diagnosed the culprit 3 times on 3 different 1KD engine trucks on the forum in the last 12 months .

I did do a search Shayne, but the results on here are often erratic. There are only 3 results for 'suction control valve' for example. Most common responses for lack of power are filter, tank filter and coking in the intake manifold/egr... svc's are rarely discussed. I don't often have the time to trawl through hundreds of threads & posts unfortunately. My question was more about if anyone had experience with the part numbers.

Theres 260,000 miles on it Beau, other than this issue, the engine is sweet. I dont think i want to change the pump for an unknown unit. So Ill just get the scv's done.

Sorry Bob can't help with that i just wanted to dispel the myth that these don't fail . Might it be an idea to give Simon a ring i'm sure he will help with numbers even if he can't help with price :icon-wink:

Didn't know there was a myth around them, but never really heard much about them either. Spoke to my mechanic today and he reckons they're definitely the problem, and getting genuine parts at a good price. he has done a few and apparently the result of the change is like night and day in terms of driveability.

Just an update on this as I got my truck back from getting suction control valves replaced. The difference in the drive is remarkable. It is smoother, quieter, and has regained its liveliness (in so far as any cruiser is lively). Problem solved, and well worth the few quid. Mechanic went with genuine Mr.T parts, as he has had bad experiences with 3rd party Denso branded ones oddly. Didn't fancy the job myself, not with high pressure pumps!

€380 all in, including labour and a filter. I know parts are a bit cheaper in the UK, not much going cheap in this country!
