Can't turn the timing belt light off and so i'm wondering if the simplest solution is to just swap the dash clocks with one from an 80 with similar mileage .

Is it a difficult job ?

Is it legal ?

Any issues i might encounter ?

What is illegal is clocking a vehicle and misrepresenting its mileage. Changing the clocks is in effect only a crime if you sell it on and don't tell the owner the genuine mileage. My green one had a new clock fitted by Toyota. They didn't advance the odometer at all. It was 000000 with 70k+on before.

Swapping is just one for one. Bit odd that the light won't go off though Shayne Mine came on in Russia and I just pressed it with a lolly pop sick and it went out.

I think pressing it too hard buggers the switch is all Chris , i know there's a few on here with the same problem and if you search hard enough somebody pulled it all apart to have a look at the mechanics of it at some point i recall , unless i seen it somewhere else ?

Have you tried pressing the peg while the ignition is on?

I think before swapping The clocks, I believe there are a few varieties, I’d be taking out and advancing the hidden odometer manually or failing that (and less good) removing the T belt bulb or connection to.

Make sure its exactly like for like Shayne. There are a lot of variations in the wiring on the back unless you strip it all down and just replace the speedo part. Like Chris though, I've not come across one which wouldn't put the light out with a press.

I can’t reset my T belt light either. The belt has been changed twice under my ownership and on the first occasion the warning light reset OK, but not on the second. I’ve tried it all ways ignition on, off, on aux, all to no effect.

I haven’t had the pod out though to investigate, I’ve just got used to it being on all the time.

Not illegal. I wonder if the MOT tester would risk revving up the engine for the emission test. My tester always asks me if the belt has been changed at the correct interval.

Mine was on when i bought it , and for peace of mind i changed the T-belt anyway . Its of no concern to me other than at m.o.t time .

I was just thinking if have to pull it apart to remove the bulb maybe replacing the whole thing might only add a few minutes to the job .

Changed the entire clock set on mine following a fiasco with the ABS system (loooong story) - just got a like-for-like one from a scrapper from Karl and it was a straightforward swap. As above, mileage is only an issue if its being misrepresented. Just take a note of both sets of mileage at the time of the swap if you decide to do it. Guess it would get flagged at the DVLA as the mileage history goes backwards, but its not illegal AFAIK.

If it was me, I'd just remove the bulb to try and keep the originality of the truck. Easy enough to make a note in the service book when to do the next belt change. Isn't the 80 series belt change 90,000 miles?

Where for art thou Karl Webster clocks for a 1997 Amazon 80 showing 175K , i will give you a fiver :icon-biggrin:

Hey Shayne - think I still have my old set - timing belt light works, its just the ABS light circuit that doesn't LOL!!! Make one good one?!

I think the T belt interval is 60k- no? Mine came on last week at 240k Also some useless info but I think it comes on at preset every 60k ( or whatever they are) intervals as opposed to 60k after you turn it off...

Damn Did I just say in the above that my light came on at 240k? I meant to say 140k

My Tbelt light came on at 300k km and again at 4ook km, so every 60k miles would be about right.

But 60 doesn’t go into 140 very neatly, so not sure what’s-up there ...

Maybe it resets after resetting the light vs the actual speedo?

Mine came on last month at exactly 240k too.
