Tank filter

hi all just poping over from the 90 side
I have been running around in a friends truck for the past few months and ive been suffering fuel starvation, it hicks then slowly gets worse until it eventually just stops, when i remove the fuel pipe from the filter housing and blow back down into the tank of she goes for another few hundred miles. its a 4.2 diesel.

Is there a filter in the tank? if so is it a tank of job or is there a hatch from the cab above sender unit.

There's an access cover under the rear seats.
