[Technical][7 Pin Mod]

Good Morning All,
I am considering doing Dan Busey's (cruiserdan's) 7 pin mod, which allows
selection of low ratio with the choice to option of locking or not of the
Centre Diff Lock.
It is suggested that the black wire with the blue tracer is the one to
disengage, is that the same colour for UK specs 80,s? Did any one just cut
the wire or did they unpick the terminal 7 from the block and what did they
use for that?
I also do not always like the gear selection that is automatically chosen by
the auto when in low ratio, I believe that this signal is sent via the
switch at the one o clock position at the rear of the transfer box
interrupting that signal should allow the normal selection of gears from the
auto is that correct?

Hi Anthony,
I unpicked it with a small pointy thing, can't remember what exactly it
was, just one of those tools in the box.
The alternative to the Pin 7 mod is to disconnect a cable from the
transfer case - can't remember the exact one, but it will allow you to
control the centre diff via the switch in low range as well as give you
the same level of gearing in low as you have in high.
For further details check out:
http://www.sleeoffroad.com/technical/tz_cdl_pin7mod.htm - the big
difference to these instructions for us is that the ECU is behind the
drivers side kick panel.

Personally with the CDL switch I hardly ever drop into low range so am
not so fussed about the gearing.

Thank you Julian,
The 7 pin mod on the Slee site is the original one from Dan who is the
Author and I believe first to do this mod and the other two from 80scool I
have seen. It is just that I think I saw some were that the colour for the
wires is different on UK vehicles, oh well I will just have to fiddle about.
I will try also disconnecting the appropriate switch on the transfer box
funnily enough I have just replaced this switch, I think rather than
disconnect it all together I am tempted to put a switch in to allow me a
choice of gear change pattern selection, which will I think allow then 3
programmed settings and one manual. 1, those normally available in low
range, 2 the high range selection but available in low, 3 the change pattern
available when the ECT switch is operated and of course, 4 the manual
selection of holding the gears down with the shift leaver.

Hi Anthony,
I can't remember the colours, just as long as you make sure it is Pin 7, you
should be OK.
An interesting idea, let me know how you get on.
