I bought an HJ61 last year and only had time this year to do a total reconditioning of the baby. I am just going to post some of the pics that I took while doing the surgery. I would gladly answer questions even as each pic will answer for itself. :icon-biggrin:

Decided to change the tires to 33" mud fighter. I did travel from Manila to my place in Dumaguete City. It took us 3 days and 2 nights. A distance of 300 kilometers.

Engine is a 12H-T diesel. So far, the components are complete. A few leaks but nothing serious. I always make it a point to remove the engine so as to clean and fix the leaking components. Giving the engine a fresh paint will take a lot of time. But, I can selectively hand paint this without dismantling. Give it colors to make it more lively.

Got the engine back on. My welder is repairing a few rusts here and there. By the way, my welder is Pedro and he is deaf. He does a good job but very difficult to communicate. I have to shout out loud for him to hear me. Sometimes, you might think that I was pissed off with him.

I would say rust overall is around 7%.

It is now time for a thorough cleanup of mud and oil. A power washer and an efficient degreaser would do the job.

In the next pic, the paint came off just by power spraying it over. The previous owner or whoever, did a very bad job or he got robbed.

Great clean up so far. The previous painting is really bad. What color will you paint it?

I have painted the chassis flat black and top coated this with a 70% clear coat and 30% flattening paste. Came out real good. I am on the process of preparing the body for painting. spent time in scraping the old paint. Took around three days. The body color would be gun metal. 70% silver (metallic?) and a 20% to 30% jet black. The same goes for the top coat applied to the chassis.

I decided to apply RustGuard by Shell to protect the underside form rust and help with the sound insulation.

Found the bracket in this condition and tried ordering for an original. Got a negative response. So I decided to fabricate one.

I was hoping to see something a little more thorough than this.

I just wonder how many people get to this stage and just give up, pile all the bits in boxes, shove them in a barn and walk away. You've really got to be determined. Going to be as good as new when you've done. Keep up the good work!

Yes Chris, I had a few projects in the past and was put on hold because of other priorities. I am now on a slow pace in life and have more time to dip my hands and get all greasy. I have a timeline to finish the project by April. Cheers

Fabrication done. Cleaning and painting comes next.

Support for the muffler arrived today and tried it on. a little adjustment to be done as the pipes are not original.

Bracket should be the other way facing the rear and not the front.
