Tomtom on PC?

Gary Stockton said:
Ok. So I should use this for geographical locations that MM doesn't cover. Can you overlay sat maps / import Russian military maps etc?

Not as far as I know, you can only use maps that are Garmin compatible.

I downloaded and installed MapSource then nRoute
(think i could do this since i already had garmin training software installed)
and have been busy downloading the free maps for UK, france and N-spain

plugged in GPS to laptop and it came up with location straightaway

I already have a HP ipaq-travel companion, which has tomtom
but laptop will be good backup and bigger screen.

i have UK 1:50000 maps on anquet maps on both the laptop and the ipaq

Just ordered Garmin mobile pc software from Maplin online at £50 so we can see how it goes. At that price it is still cheaper than buying new maps for the regions that i want to go to for the tomtom, plus the tomtom maps are saying less than 75% coverage.
.
Hi Paul,

How did the Garmin pan out on the PC ?

Which gps receiver did you need, was it a 9600 or a 4800
