Uhh Ohh, parcel lady just been ....

The Milwaukee brand is known to be very good here in Spain, rated as very reliable and used my many professionals, so a good choice IMO.

Has anyone come across a decent, compact, mains powered gun? I have a Clarkes gun which was under 50 quid and great when you can actually get it on a bolt. But it's too big to get on anything much. Was invaluable yesterday on the bottom bolt of my brake calipers, wouldn't get on the top. I own a LC so I only under bolt a few times a year. I worry about the longevity of battery powered stuff. Or more accurately I worry about the batteries. And I'm happy to roll and extension lead to where I work on my cars.

Rob, I have one of those Clarke guns too. Not a bad bit of kit and no money at all really. In terms of battery powered ones, you get what you pay for. The Milwaukee and other top pro brands really are built to last and frankly I don't think I'll ever wear one out in a DIY setup. The battery technology now is so far removed from days of old and manufacturers are very aware of concerns such as yours. You can get the LiION batteries in the M18 Milawaukee range for as little as £25. Having collected this little group now all with the same batteries, I'd imagine I could cycle them round and never need another one.

How would I rate the corded Clarke against the battery Milwaukee? You know there really isn't much in it. But if I had to say which I think would pack up first in a head to head test undoing lorry wheel nuts in a test, I'd say the Milwaukee would still be going strong long after the Clarke was on the bench in bits. But then that isn't what we do is it.

I'd second the Milwaukee quality rating. Very solid and rugged built-to-last engineering. I bought an impact driver 'kit' last year with 2 x 5.0ah batts, case and charger. I went for the high powered one which is probably a bit overkill for diy use but has shrugged off everything I've thrown at it so far. I wouldn't really consider battery power an issue these days with the decent stuff, really cheap tools and batteries excluded! As far as size goes you're probably going to get the same access problems with any medium to high powered driver as they're all fairly bulky.

I like the chaff.Dogs danglies indeed

More tool porn!

A package arrived for me today, a Milwaukee 3/8 drive cordless ratchet with an extra battery.

It hasn't had a lot of use today, but from what little use it has had I can tell it's going to be a godsend. It just gets into places that the hose on an air ratchet would get in the way.
