This is on a GCC spec petrol 80. Don’t have the manual and Google search comes up blank. Put a new air filter in, but it didn’t go away. Perplexed - any help welcome!
I think your right to change the air filter , I'd disconnect batteries for half hour to see if it clears the fault warning before pulling things apart to see how air gets to the filter .

Wired symbol there! To me it looks very similar to what is used for a warning that the catalytic converters is overheating, but I guess you don’t have a cat?
