What is it worth?

A bit of closure to this old thread. The new owner of this 80, who wishes to remain anonymous, has sent me these pictures of it.

It is probably the lowest mileage 80 in the UK, 32k on the clock. It is currently completely standard but there are plans are to produce a Landcruiser 'sports' - parts waiting to fit are Safari intercooler, 3 inch stainless full exhaust from Bueadesert in Aus and Safari light turbo upgrade and all pump tweaks. Brakes and suspension for fast but comfortable road use - no lift, winches or bumpers etc... Both exterior and interior are MINT....

It is currently in proper storage - alongside Bugatti Veyron, Astons etc.

Ian, is there any we we could arrange a blindfolded coach trip? I'd happily pay a tenner just to sit in it for 5 mins

I go to sleep at night dreaming of that. It is a thing of sheer beauty. Has he got one in blue

I don't think there is a drooling emoticon is there?

Chris

Man, that is one tidy truck...

Here's the drooling emoticon Chris

I'm just the messenger on this one, however having sat in it I can confirm the inside is just as good as the outside.

Ian

W O W  :o

Are you sure he doesn't have a time machine? If you told someone that those pics were taken on the day it was bought 10+ years ago, you wouldn't bat an eye-lid. Amazing condition especially considering that it hasn't been restored but just "as is"!

Any idea why he's electing to mod it from standard, Ian? Presumably he's not looking to use it as a daily driver and is hanging onto it as a collectible? Original would presumably be the best investment long-term - but I know nothing about collecting cars so I'll wipe my chin and keep quiet now  (Green with envy doesn't begin to describe it)

Cheers,

Daft question I know, but is this worth like £7500 or £35000? Just because it's mint doesn't necessarily mean that it hasn't depreciated like all the others. As it's going to be a one off, I suppose someone with REAL money might be prepared to buy it (no, I know it's not for sale) at an absolutely ridiculous price. It's sort of frozen in time.

Not spoiling for a fight over this question - just curious as to how the market sees it. It it were for sale at £7500, I would buy it this very second and work out the issues when I had stopped laughing.

Chris

When finished it will be a daily driver rather than a collectors car, he just wanted the tidiest base vehicle to start with.

The exact quote in the email was ".. come out and be used when I've finished my over landing mid life crisis phase..".

Hi all,

So Chris has thrown up a price of between £7000 and £35000

Just where does tha price sit in todays market?

Guessing £13000 ?

Gra.

There is no way to value a vehicle like this in my opinion. It is worth different amounts to different people. If you want a very low mileage 80 you have a limited pool to choose from. It's not like something where there are loads available.

Ian

They were only figures Gra, not an actual valuation. I could have said between £6k and the original list price. But that would have been a bit daft. It really a question of what would YOU pay if you had the money.

OK If I had a £billion in my current account then £100k would be chicken feed and I might pay that just to save messing around. But in terms of normal quantities of money, and being very well off, I think that I would be prepared to go as high as maybe £20k for that. I think that it's worth more than simply a nice tidy late 80 series.

Question is, what would I do with it? Laning? ARE YOU MENTAL

Chris

Oakley Garage in Chesham had/have a '96 VX manual with 43k on it for £18k which I would say would be around £3k too high.

Collectors aren't likely to invest in LCs so the prices will never rise that high.

Not sure you could put a "market" value on such examples as they are not representative of the examples on the market.......

Let's say one of us were lucky enough to have been the winner of last Friday's EuroMillions jackpot.....and this 80 came up for sale. How much would you be willing to pay for it out of your £40m+ winnings?

OK, that's a rather extreme example but you wouldn't need to be that rich to have ~£20k to blow on a "toy".

Just my 2p worth. ;)

EDIT : My post crossed with the above 2 or 3, but the general sentiment seems the same.

.
So down to your last billion,

What ' ya been spending the other billion on?

Gra.

Last billion? Porn and Fry's chocolate Cream, Graham. I know how to live.

Chris

I remember picking mine up, brand new, from a dealership in Eastbourne (can't remember the name). Unfortunately it was a company car, so got used and abused for 3 years. If I knew I would be keeping it, I would have taken more care of it.

As people have already said. You could never put a price on this as someone with mega money wanting the best they could buy would be like me finding a car and giving 20quid for it. People buy These big money cars and keep them six months and loose over 100k on them. So someone wanting to buy this cruiser because they (WANT) it the price could be anything.

Karl

I'll willingly give you £20 for it Karl ..

sadly though i'm looking for a straight 80 thats not lifted a mile high.

will keep lookin though ..... good luck with the sale
