Who is doing what maintenance today?

Not maintenance but off to the ffx tool show and spoilt myself with a new sander, jigsaw, combi drill, impact driver and impact wrench along with some hand tools

As long as it wasn't a blue one Karl ....

I really want one of those Milwaukee impact wrenches. I have a Clarke corded one and it's a handy thing, but cordless is a dream. Not prepared to spend too LITTLE one one. If I buy one it's not going to be Wickes own brand.

Not a blue one Chris lol.

If you got for the impact gun. Go the biggest they do mate. I never had a choice when I bought mine and I didn't realise that they did different sizes. Mine hasn't quite got the umph I'd like :(

Now there's a coincidence. I've also been fancying a decent cordless impact wrench for a while now. From the Milwaukee range I'm fancying this one http://www.powertools-direct.com/PBSCProduct.asp?ItmID=12162233 Not cheap but with more than enough grunt for just about any job on the LC and any bigger jobs that come along. Going 'big' on the torque rating means it'll handle just about every vehicle related job with ease. That's my thinking anyway. Would like to actually see and handle one first though. They're sponsoring Yamaha in the BSB series again this year. They usually have a marquee with tools on show and deals to be had at race meetings to I might try my luck at one of these.

Reckon we can get a discount for two?

Not known to do much maintenance on my truck, but it was time for the routine oil and filter changes at 8,000kms so in it went to my trusted service workshop yesterday.

For the sake of comparisons with the UK, and to keep the record safe for me, I'll list what they did and the prices (expressed in GBP incl. VAT):

Service at 361,000 km 3 March 2015. BTW, the guy came to my office at 08:30 took the truck and returned it to my office at 18:30, which is a nice touch IMO.

Mobil Super S (Diesel) 10W40 engine oil 52.13
Oil filter 15.10
Fuel filter 24.54
Air filter 8.64
Coolant 7.08
Total Parts 107.49

Labour for the above plus checking:
Brakes: front pads/rear shoes, adjustment including handbrake;
Suspension check;
Steering joints check;
Adjustment of front & rear diff backlash;
Checking fuel leak on injector, dismantle/clean/reassemble.

Total Labour 86.35

Grand total 193.84

Work still required (next week):
New piston in driver side front brake caliper 17.38
Caliper seal kit & gaskets 74.36
ARB drop link (Rear) 61.13
Front prop front UJ replacement 56.66
Replacement fuel pipe pump-to-injector 27.71
TOTAL PARTS (incl VAT) 237.74

I pay next week when they've finished the job.

The fuel pipe doesn't leak now, but they recommended replacing the pipe.

How's that for service?

I recon you'll say the parts are too expensive, but they use Mr T except for consumables, like air filters and the like, but, the labour is cheap and saves the day.

I'm happy with that :icon-biggrin:

Wow! that is cheap, can you book my 80 in for a check over next August Clive. :lol:

I envy you Clive i put my truck in for a main dealer 160 point inspection a couple of years ago , but i'd have more faith in your garage just from looking at that work sheet .

Nice one. :thumbup:

How long are those clamps?

I want some! :icon-biggrin:

:lol: Chas, maybe not such a bad idea, but it's here in Bucharest (2 hours drive from the house) and they need the day, so it would be to much of a chunk out of your visit. I know you were joking though. :thumbup:

Its about trust Shayne, as well as the price. I have had these checks in the past, and to be fair, they have occasionally missed things, but they're honest. Every time they replace a part, they show me the old part. I know they can still cheat me if they try hard enough, but I've had no suspicions to date. When I go to pay next week, I can guarantee that there will be a plastic container with my old oil in it, and the filters that came off the truck will be neatly boxed in the boxes from the new filters fitted.

They're a good bunch of lads, always ready to chat about any issues I may have with the truck. Some of them are also 80 enthusiasts, one guy has 2 comp trucks based on 80 chassis and drive-line. They stock off-road accessories including ARB and other well known brands, Warn and Superwinch etc., but the prices are high and I tend to avoid them for that. If I'm not careful, I can spend a fortune there, snatch blocks, winch ropes, hooks, shackles, everything, it's all there!

The only thing they can't do for me is tune the pump. I still need to find a guy who knows diesels old style, to do that. All in all, I'm very lucky to have them, as you'll have noticed, my mechanical days are over sadly, with the exception of fitting accessories and the really simple stuff. :whistle:

Yeah, but it would be good if UK labour charges were like those. To return to maintainence Julian V fitted my LRT recently and yesterday was the first time I could fill both tanks from empty,

£166 squids!

Chas the std tank is 90L .

Ave diesel price is circa £1.12

So if you only spent £166 to fill both from empty that's only 148L

Must be a small LRT then!

Just 60 ltrs Clive, a bigger one couldn't be fitted because of the reinforcement behind my rear bumper. I managed to get 141.78ltr in. Diesel at my local is £1.16.9 at the moment.

What LRT tank did you fit Chas?

Also diesel is dear in the UK, I'm paying about 1.23/l in Euro at the moment in Ireland

It's a tank I bought from a fellow member, Andrew B something I've forgotten his surname, I think it's a Toyota sub tank from another Cruiser maybe.

Well it was Lazz that raised the comment Chas, but going from 90l to 150l is an advantage anyway, even if some LRTs are bigger.

I don't normally do a high mileage so I've not been tempted to add an auxiliary tank... yet. I don't use the spare wheel space, so I have some options. I'm thinking more of filling that space with an air receiver, I'd get more use out of that.

Good to hear you have the tank fitted anyway, you've had that ages by all accounts. :thumbup:
