Who is doing what maintenance today?

You told me to break out the gas axe...Oh don't worry you said. It will all fuse back together you said. If it doesn't I have a set here..........aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh so that was your plan! :P

You got me..... Only issue i wouldnt have any here if you wanted them

I planned ahead as I knew these cone washers can be a bit of a bugger. I bought a full set of cones, studs, washers and nuts just to be on the safe side

I also had to buy new drive flanges to match the HDK CVs anyway so I had a back up plan if all else failed

Had fun trying to fit my fog lights to the ARB bar - epic failure, as the surrounds seem to be different to the one's on Crispin's bumper - his fit, mine don't. Not sure what I'll do now - try and find new surrounds?? Have sent a mail to ARB in Oz for advice

Then consoled myself by making funky little aluminium brackets to retro-fit the wired winch remote and the cut-out switch to isolate the winch solenoid - all done and working properly, which is a surprise on its own.

Finally fitted the National Luna battery monitor to see what's happening now that I've got the winch all set up - nice to see all the green LEDs lit up when the engine is running - full charge hitting the batteries ;) and sits at 12.5v with everything off. Not bad for 7 year old batteries. But that's them cursed now

Finally got the 80 finished. I have replaced all the bearings, gaskets and seals on the front axle, fitted new birfields, fitted my new breather kit, tightened up the steering, changed the oil and filter, changed fuel filter, fixed my steering column shroud and I finally found and sorted out an annoying scraping sound while turning the wheel (horn contact sliding mechanism). Thats 4 days soild in the workshop and I'm bloody knackered. It was worth it though as I now have an 80 that feels really nice to drive and doesn't tramline or wander like it did before.

I'm one happy man and to top it off the wife has just handed me a Rum and Coke! Life doesn't get better than this.

Incidentally, my overalls were so filthy I had to jetwash them, then soak them for an hour before putting them in the machine :?

Anyway I'm back in the workshop next week to fit my VHF radio ready for my charity event support next weekend.

Adjusted the hand brake so it does something  put some air in the tyres, they were only at 22 psi no wonder it felt quite comfy!

Didnt know 80s had a handbreak Jon,where abouts in the car are they then?

Beats me...I have a toilet roll on my handbrake lever so I can get to the daughters nose before she wipes it on the seat. Oh the joys of a 4yo

I agree having seen it I think its one of the few places I would use one aswell

Decided I would "quickly" fit a new aerial. I should probably have put the tools away when I realised I had the wrong aerial, but decided to make it fit. All seemed to go well until the dash panel hooked the face of the head unit and pulled it off /#^*]{<|~&@£!!! After 5 minutes of slow deep breaths I looked to see if I could fix it. A ribbon cable had pulled out of a connector, so I tried to manoeuvre it back in. I managed to pull it out pretty sharpish when I saw smoke! Why, oh why had I not unplugged it first. Torn between binning an expensive Alpine hu, and knowing that I'd let the smoke out... I had another few goes and did finally manage to get it all working again. Its been a while since I've been so relieved.

Back from Texas this morning, so this afternoon I fitted the inchworm difflock accuator guard I got whilst out there in USA.
fitted OK even when hampered by jetlag.
one of lower studs unwound instead of the nut. i didnt want to remove it as diff oil would poor out. with a blowtorch, and wd40 and care i got the nut loose and then undone whilst holding the stud with molegrips.

i have already dinged the accuator on a rock once, so hopefully this skid will protect it now

Oil and filter change today, last one done 5,000kms ago.

Thought this was a dying hobby in SA, but yesterday my brothers LC was stolen from outside Chapmans Peak Hotel (for those that know it)- broad daylight, 2pm, whilst having lunch. Heard the screech of his bakkie LC 76 being driven off at speed.

So after the oil change also fitted a "kill" switch from the immobiliser to the inside of the cab - well hidden so unless you know what your looking for, and exactly where to look, the truck will never start when switched off. Should make it a little harder for the skollies to steal when I'm catching a graze!!

Replaced those two little bobbin rubbers on the bottom of the rear ARB. Passed the MOT with them, but clearly some play. They were pretty stuffed when I pulled 'em. Nipped up the front locker motor, as there was a little diff oil weeping from that spot. After swapping the diffs and going for a few runs, it's not surprising that there may be the odd drip.

Have a look for the delayed ones. If it does not start then, if they are persistent, they can overcome it. The delay ones allow them to drive and get the vehicle to somewhere (30 seconds) and then stop. Normally, that is in the middle of the road and it makes it somewhat of a talking point for passers by.
