Who is doing what maintenance today?

Fitted a pair of beige leather seats in the GX today. They are more plush and comfortable than the GX seats and have a greater range of adjustment including height. This was pointed out by KW and he was right . I might now convert the whole interior to VX spec. Just one thing to note, the VX front seats are 10kg heavier than the GX ones.

That's exactly what I want to do in my GX. Was all the wiring already there in the GX for the motors etc? Where did you manage to get the seats, does whoever you got them from have another set and may I ask how much did they cost?

The cost soon gets forgotten. The more you drive the truck the more you would think they were a bargin whatever you have to pay Gary.

Picked another truck up today. Gs 24v. I hated driving it onto the trailer sat in the cloth seats. When your used to the position adjustment on the leathers you can't go back.

I'm about to push the button on a complete change of inside from brown cloth to grey leather. Just sorting bout a few things but will report back with before and after photos.

Yep. The problem is in getting a pair of beige seats though.

Now that's a thought. Much more available than beige. Not sure if I'd do a complete change though. In fact if I could come up with just a driver's beige leather seat it would do.

Not good Chris, I'll look forward to your pics of fitting a bearing and adjusting it up :icon-wink:
I'll prob leave it till after Wales unless they're a 10 min job!

Edit... doesn't look too bad to do, just need to make a tool for the job. Will take truck to work next week and sort it.

Been on the brakes again all day. Worked each piston through on every corner, individually. That's a lot better. Fitted some new sliding pin boots too on the rear. Brakes now coming in pretty well. Still pulling but the pads need to make friends with the discs so I thnk that will smooth out. Got the ASB fixed. Light gone out on the dash and got no 'wibble' as I pull up at junctions.

But that damn handbrake. I just can't cure that. Decided to leave it until after Easter. Can't face taking to bits again. Driver's side is spot on. Got that well sorted which is odd because it's usually the DS that is the pain. Stripped the PS down again and can't see anything wrong at all. I adjust the shoes right up to the drum then back off one click and all is well, but when I apply the handbrake and lock the back wheels, whilst the DS is solid, the PS moves. Oddly a few degrees in either direction like the shoes are moving inside the drum. It just won't hold on a hill. Never had this before and I have done more handbrakes than I can recall. Just going to have tp pull the whole lot off the hub and do it again. OK it could be a fault in the shoe backing plate but I doubt it.

Chris.
Have you made sure that the hand break pivot point on the axle is nice and free along with the bit where they meet on the rear hubs.
Not trying to tell my gran how to suck eggs or owt. Just an idea

I have Karl, yes. Thanks for the suggestion. One issue I have seen in the past is wear in the bell crank piviot pin. But doing the adjusting the way I do takes out that slack. It's the fact that you can lock the handbrake and STILL jog the wheel back and forth a few degs in either direction that has me flummoxed. I have been starting at the FSM and EPC and everything is in as it should be. Something has changed somewhere and I can't see where. The drum / disc is rocking on the pads.

Now one thing I have just read in the FSM is that you should pull the handbrake on and drive for 400 meters! Then readjust. Well, never read that before. I shall give it a go. Might be that there is a high spot.

All the mechanism is free including the connection to the wire rope section inside. That's usually seized solid on these.

Sorted the steering at last by sorting out the alignment, Fitted a new bulkhead steering seal, fitted the rebuilt steering pump and did a full bleed and it seems to be holding up and doing a good job, dropped the engine oil just to make sure all is well in the engine and flush it.

Drained my manual gearbox and transfer box and refilled.

For some reason there was over 6l oil in the gearbox which was a bit of a shock when it spewed out the fill plug!!

Sorted rear wheel bearings and oil seals for the half shafts. Put the swr meter on the cb and tweaked the antenna. Put some air in the tyres too. Just need to strap the spare down in the boot and get some fuel.

Then got cracking with the sound proofing and adding the final layer of foam

More to come tomorrow as I hope to finish off the sound proofing tomorrow after a family bike ride and picnic in the Windsor great park.

Are you sound proofing all the internals of the doors and rear quarters as well Warren?

Blimey Warren, you've been busy. I dread to think what I'd find if I stripped mine out

Yep rear quarters done and doors to follow when I swap the door cards at some point. I need to get some adhesive to stick the foam to the doors and quarter panels. Not sure if I will glue the floor down or not as the carpet will keep it all in place but I will see closer to the time.

Changed one of the wishbones on my 120. Not as terrible a job as some 90 owners seem to have had. Helped myself by replacing with a new wishbone and not farting about removing and replacing the bushes. OEM wishbone from Milners doesn't cost much more than just the bushes from Mr T, and I get a new ball joint into the bargain. Still need to do the other side. Took about 4 hours with lots of tea breaks. Someone competent could do it in under half that I reckon.

Hmm. You can call that above post hubris. Other side the bolts and cam adjusters are seized solid. If an overnight with Plus Gas doesn't help it'll be out with the grinder in the morning. Fortunately I I bought one spare set of cam adjusters which I fitted to the other side, but they adjusters I removed have cleaned up well enough.
