Who is doing what maintenance today?

ineos grenadier..

Ha but no.

Ok I'll put you out of...

It's my 250, I got it in October last year but haven't used it over the winter in order to wait for dry warm weather. It's been on my signature since then.
On the basis that Cruisers in general are not well painted/ protected underneath I thought I'd give it another 2 or 3 coats to overcome the sandblasting effect of all the road dust and salt from our roads.
Well down the line someone will appreciate the lack of underbody rust but it's not something everyone thinks about or does.
Toyota could well take a lesson from VW about underbody protection, the 20 year old Touareg I had was pretty rust free underneath.

Some of you knew I'd got it, and a few knew I had said I was getting one. This was one of the first released and it's only a couple of weeks ago they got their second. I ordered it on the day they were announced on the second of August 2023 so waited 14 and a half months for it.

I like the look of them, especially the round headlight versions.

That must have taken some will power to not drive a brand new car! Be interested to hear how you get on with it!

You're my/our hero keeping it away from the roads till the better weather and for doing what you are, dare say most of us here if we could aspire to a brand new Cruiser would get straight to some proper corrosion prevention, because well lets face it rust is just about the only thing that kills them.
I had my new Hilux pro rustproofed in 2007, seeing the finished job sent me down the road of always treating my own ever since.

I have a humble suggestion for you.
Start a new stand alone thread for your new Cruiser, not to show it off as such but to show what can and ought to be done at the factory or import centre (Portbury) and in the fullness of time, with annual underbody pics, it will get brought to the attention of the suits at Toyota, might gain the attention of the head man himself.
Its in all our interests for Toyota to actually do something about underbody protection, even if only to vehicles destined for countries and areas that use excessive salt on the roads, a ''sticky'' thread especially, dare say the mods would be helpful here, would draw attention.

When you've decided on paints etc will you be proofing the cavities, body as well as chassis?

Fitted a new rear diff lock actuator to the 80 . The old one had been working intermittently but sometimes isn't good enough when you need it to work all the time. It did work all the time when I bought it 11 years ago so I can't complain.
I think it was about £330 from Amayama.

Yesterday I saw this on Lexus forum. The discussion was about how cars were built not to last longer with exception of below.
On here, I’m constantly amazed by the exceptional mileage and age of LCs here. It’s also a privilege to be able to read/meet real enthusiasts and to learn. Don’t ask me how much I learned

  • Iconic or overbuilt models (e.g. Mercedes W124, Volvo 240/740, Toyota Land Cruiser) often exceeded 200,000 miles and are still running today, especially if maintained by enthusiasts.

Thank god you revealed the secret. Since I saw this post was thinking how did u clean the underbody so well.
I want to clean mine before taking it to Krown in Oct. I was thinking water is cold, how can I go under the car and use jet wash without getting wet etc etc..
now I will relax a bit . I will lower the bar. I can’t get mine as clean as yours :)

I'm considering trying the " Ice blasting" route on one Cruiser to see how it turns out. Apparently it's the route to go down on underbody preparation pre protection.

The detailing place where I sent Kia had Iceblasting . I think they use mostly for classic car restoration. Is it not expensive?

I think many of us are waiting on the spring rains, a few days of journeys in the wet to soak the crud then a couple of runs through a long local ford followed by a good wash down at home.
I have an L shaped lance for my pressure washer and can turn the pressure right down whilst still enough water volume to do the job well.

No point at all trying to wash down yet the crud is baked on currently any points i miss won't get cleaned out by the overwash.

MOT on Thursday so setting the parking brake - again, and checking windscreen wipers…. Plus a new in-tank fuel filter coz I don’t think the original has ever been changed …
