So, here a question,
Can you use maybe 2 - 3 snatch blocks,, if you were REALLY, REALLY stuck?
Like winch to the tree, and around a block, then back to the truck through another block, then back to the tree again as anchor?
Pulling would be slow, that's for sure, but would it work ?
Need a fair decent length of rope also.

Gra.

yep, you can triple line or however many times you have the gear for. Wrong thread though I think Graham :icon-biggrin:

Moved the thread.

You could have as many pulls as you have line for. Each pull makes life easier for the motor. At some point though, you'll rip the winch off...

with one snatch block on a tree in front of the vehicle, and winch rope running down the outside of the vehicle, then another 2 snatch blocks on trees behind - assuming a surplus of well placed trees! you can winch a vehicle backwards with a front mounted winch

Not winching as such but with enough pullies (Snach Blocks) you can actually lower a Jeep Wrangler qown a 60 degree decline. I mean by hand.

Thanks, so it can be done, but "gently" does it.

Not true..no matter how many blocks and lines you put in, the winch will not pull any more than it's designed load.

I would draw it out for you, but don't know how to put it in the thread.

Pulling in a straight line...a car weighs say 2 tonnes?, bogged down a little slope and now the winch needs to pull 3tonnes?...you WILL need a winch, line, hook and recovery points capable of holding that 3 tonne pull.
Now if you double the line..ie: from winch, to load, around a snatch block and back to winching car , you will need a 1.5 tonne winch to do the same work.....................OR you could pull a load of 6 tonnes with the 3 tonne winch. But it will only put a 3 tonne load on any leg of the winch lines, and a final load of 6 tonnes......

Sorry, you right. The load on the winch never increases beyond what the winch would have been able to pull on a single line. At some point though you will pull either the wheels off (assuming they stuck in goop) or rip something off. At some point, with enough pulls, something will give.

sure will....if you were to use one snatch block on winching car, and two blocks on the load (stuck car)...a 3 tonne pull on the winch would produce a pulling effort of 12 tonnes...so you can see that a 4tonne shackle wouldn't stand it , you would need a 12 tonne shackle connected to the stricken vehicle.

The winch shouldn't get pulled off, but the bumper it's attached to that probably has the snatch block and hook attached to it better be well made and mounted or that'll be what gets pulled off :shifty:

If you use a 45m rope and 11 snatch blocks you can pull out a 80 series when it was stuck half way up it wheels,

BY HAND!!!!!!!

The big danger with snatch blocks is if an anchor point fails you suddenly have a big lump of metal flying around and that can kill........

10minutes with a shovel can make a very stuck truck a easy recovery.

Agreed, I wouldn't winch without a "safety" on the snatch block. It's not difficult to run a safety line around the tree attached to the block, just in case the block or it's anchor strap fails.

Better than having 3kg of metal flying at you at 80mph. :eusa-naughty:
