All depends on the size Adrian, but you might need a special steels / alloys stockist.

What sort of dimensions - and would aluminium do instead (worth asking)

was thinking about 10-12.5 mm diam

alum would probably do

thought i might check ebay in case (perhaps should have looked there first!) and have just found a 300mm bar for just over a fiver so ill give that a whirl.

If it's for the front hubs, then 10 mm is a bit thin, but acceptable.
I have one 3/8", but wishing it was 1/2" or 5/8.
