    3.0 td definitive answer required

I had problems with my d4d throwing up all sorts of faults and spluttering as if it a fuelling issue... eventually found one of the earth straps was corroded through, was fine after that.

    Lincomb April 2015

Thanks to all for a great weekend! Nathan keeps telling his mum about what we got up to... Lesson learnt re Milner stuff though... and another massive thanks to tony for letting us in his workshop to get me back on the road:thumbup:

    D4D Very poorly

Give that man a big pat on the back! We actually found and fixed the earth to the block which was holding on by 3 strands at noon yesterday and now it's running great. Weird thing is that it was still cranking well?

    D4D Very poorly

Bag of Poo, changed all the pressure sensors for ones of an identical car and no change. Tried to take it for another fault code and it died when brakes were applied! Can't cope with the brake lights... anyone got a match and pint of petrol?

Thanks Iwan, I'll look over it and pull some wires off to see if it helps on Tuesday.

    D4D Very poorly

A quick Google shows a common fault with the turbo pressure sensor needing a clean on the d4d avensis... anyone know of its location on the 3 litre?

    D4D Very poorly

Bloomin poo electrickery! Will get a more in depth fault coding next week. Here's hoping its only a dodgy sensor throwing things out.

    D4D Very poorly

thanks guys, fuel pumps a possibility but I'm still confused by it running really well for periods. It's getting weirder too, I've eliminated an air leak on the fuel line by feeding the pimp directly from a funnel but the strangest thing is that any electrical load kills the engine... I only...

    D4D Very poorly

Afternoon Chaps,My D4D is a bit on the poorly side, took a run to Marple to collect the digger from a job, got there fine but the car wouldn't start to leave. Eventually got it to run like a bag of spanners but not well enough to move. Its smoking a little white too. After it took RAC 9 hours to...

3.5 tonne tipper, What would you buy??

I got an 04 crewcab Iveco, very roomy so loads of space for tools. Looks the biz in company colours and the steel work is 3 times as thick as any other van so it'll last well. Only problem is being so heavy it's almost overloaded with a packet of crisps... it's essentially a 5.5tonne van rated...

    Broken sump, insurance claim?

Trev, if it makes you feel any better an old boy in a small Korean car wandered across his lane on a dual carriageway into the side of the 90. I saw him coming, sounded my horn and matched his speed to minimise damage. On collision he hit the brakes and tore the side of the his car and ripped...

    Broken sump, insurance claim?

Trev, fully comp is to cover personal error. If I never wanted this covered I'd buy 3rd party cover. If I could afford to take it on the chin that'd be different. Also, dont expect too much of the missus when it comes to mechanics.

4inches high x 900mm long max. Tape measure out tomorrow....

    Broken sump, insurance claim?

Googling regulations on speed bumps now... thanks.

    Broken sump, insurance claim?

1st claim ever and paid way over the car value in that time. I can't afford to keep the car anyway so I'll fix and sell up if they don't write it off. Why is it morally wrong?
  21. M

    Broken sump, insurance claim?

She thinks she hit it on a speed bump... don't suppose that really matters? Not sure we'll be keeping the policy or replacing the car so bumped premium wouldn't matter. Thanks.

    Broken sump, insurance claim?

Afternoon chaps, quick question for you... The wife has put a hole in the sump on her Passat and ran it until it "sounded like something was falling off"! With the engine run dry is it possible I could get the insurance to cough up? The car was due to go to pastures new and probably would be...

    Lincomb weekend June 7-8th

Maybe take to opportunity to put a rear winch in the bumper? Nicer lowering down forwards if you really need to lower it down, you get options and control.

    Lincomb weekend June 7-8th

That was an Epic weekend! Thank you to all who were involved in the organising and keeping me moving. Obviously made up to take 1st... especially in a vehicle that Total Off Road mag have twice slated as one of the 10 worst 4x4's built!... does that make my Isuzu better than an LC? Hands down...

Sorry to say matey but your missus was driving on the wrong side of the road! Seriously though, my unit is by the docks. Regularly meet wagon drivers who forget which is the correct side, usually meet them on a bend too.

    Office Pig

Was getting a little cold in the office and had no way to cook food beyond the microwave... Welcome Office Pig! Got it installed on a 4" home made twin wall flue and the draw is so intense that it burns far too hot. Roped around the ashbox tray now and it's cooled down nicely, had an all...

    D4D troubles

Good Morning chaps, Took the cap apart, there's a non return valve there that lets air in. It took quite a bit of effort to open so removed a coil from the spring. All good now and no hiss either way.

Overly active LSD - anyone experienced this?

Running an lsd with standard oil causes it to stick and lock, usually happens after driving in a long straight line (motorways etc.). If it's had standard oil in the past it may have damaged the plates and put burres on them. I'd fill the diff with diesel then drive it in a tight circle each...

    D4D troubles

Well I've found the problem... So simple I've been kicking myself! Got home at 4am on Saturday and had a thought, popped the filler flap, unscrewed the cap and tssssst. Blocked breather sucking the fuel away from the pump. Left the cap loose for now 'til I get to fix it. Is the breather in the...

    D4D troubles

Hello all, Thanks for your replies... I have changed the fuel filter which made no difference, the car is dosed with millers diesel additive each fill. Today I primed the filter before starting then continued to prime after starting, it still cut out but started much quicker afterwards...

    D4D troubles

Thanks, There's no smoke when running or cranking. I'll try priming before I start to see if it makes any difference. Given that it runs for about 40 seconds before stalling I'm thinking the problem is going to be local to the injector pump. I'd think a bubble would take a little longer to...

    D4D troubles

Hello Chaps! I've recently acquired a 2001 d4d (thanks Mum and Dad!). It's taken the job of bus for now with the Mighty Isuzu still dealing with the tough stuff. It's developed a temperamental problem soon after starting where it looses all power and dies. It takes a lot of cranking to get...
