thanks higgy. not out of my 80, that engine is still running stronger than god..
it might go in a long term future project, or, if dave2000 offers me enough cash, (including shipping), it can go on a pallet.. :D.

"Let me see now............a toffee in a wrapper....didn't like the taste so put it back, some loose smash....oh....and an old condom...out of date but remains unused, am I close Mike?"

Regards

Dave

You have a wallet ...................................... posh bugger :icon-smile:

Reminds me f when I rebuilt engines back in 70's and 80's but even Aston Martin engines were ever so simple by comparison.

thanks fellas.

had to lay off this for a few weeks, but back on it now and new parts are in.
this has been one of the more frustrating parts of the job, finding a bracket is missing or some other small part that scuppers progress. you can only "drop on" something else a finite amount of times..

Water pump etc fitted.
IMG_20220330_125220.jpg

This then allows the camshaft cover to be fitted.
IMG_20220330_142502.jpg
IMG_20220330_143625.jpg

Which in turn means I can fit the camshaft sprocket and timing belt..
IMG_20220330_160416.jpg

Setting the IP timing, the match mark is to get it something like, you then dial it in by slightly rotating the pump. On this occasion it wasn't far out, just needed retarding slightly.

Power steering pump and vacuum pump given a coat of paint and installed with new pipework.

Injectors and glow plugs installed.

Spent ages trying to find the nuts that go on top of the glow plugs in the EPC..

Yeah you guessed it, they come with the glow plugs..

Rocker cover also installed.
It's starting to come together now, and is beginning to look like an engine.

Well done CG, they don't come that good from the factory !
having bought some new oem parts that i havnt bought before, such as the alternator bracket, IP support bracket and crank pulley. its surprising, or maybe not. how poor the paint finish is. they also have bare metal exposed around the bolt holes that the bolt flange doesnt actually cover. these literally started rusting within a couple of days and i had to coat them with WD40.

Looking great, takes me back a few years for sure., Back then though with money being as short as it was (typical apprentice mechanic wages of £16.00 per week), it meant scurrying around breakers yards looking for good parts and cleaning and painting before fitting, but those were the days, I did have help though when shoehorning engines from different cars into Anglia's and even a Rover V8 into a Mk1 Escort with a 'Janspeed' fibreglass flip front, funny how I can remember'stuff' from 45+ years ago and not what I had for dinner last night. :openmouth:

BTW Mike, my offer still stands and I will even allow you to come over and fit it into my 80 and will of course provide food and lodging. :)

Regards

Dave
