does anyone know what a 90 Series with 235 85 16 tyres fitted looks like, do they look too skinny ? anyone have any pics by any chance

Hmm, I have some 255's and have seen 90's with them on too and they are about as skinny as I'd want to go without looking like an ice rally machine if I'm honest. 235 is going to look very thin. Without spacers, I would say exceedingly skinny.. Damn good in the snow though.

Chris

twas my thoughts but it had crossed my mind as the prices are pretty keen, guess I will stick with the 265's then

The 255 gives you 33" though which is handy. Going tall and thin causes you less rubbing issues than fat ones with lower aspect ratios.

Chris

exactly, 33's are a little big for the V6 Auto thats used for towing

My 2c - the 235s won't look too bad. They're the same size as the old 750x16 tyres of yesteryear.
I believe Julian V has fitted a lot of this size to 80s going on overland trips and they looked ok.

Remember some incarnations of the 90s came standard with 205s or 215s, so 235 is not going to look too bad. As I said - my 2c :)

My "normal" wheels for collie are 225/75/16 GGAT2

i think factory setup for these wheels on FX model (6") was 215/80-R16

For last few months i have had wider GX/VX 7" alloys with 265/75-R16 BFG AT's on

but i dont have wheel arch flares on the FX, so skinnier tyres dont look so bad

comparison of fat and skinny

Andy they don't look bad at all, but you don't have the plastic flares on yours. I think that 225 inside the arch would look a bit skimpy. Maybe not. Not really the tyre size that I was thinking about, more the overall look when they're on.

Chris

Have 235/85/16's BFG MTs on my 2001 FX - replaced original 215/85/16 Grandtreks on 6" rim. Wouldn't want to go any wider on such a narrow rim - they are brilliant in snow/mud etc as they really dig down for traction. 1st set did near enough 55,000 (front) & 60,000 miles (rear) too! I fitted aftermarket arch extensions & all looks fine (will sort some pics asap), but wouldn't think they'd look as good with std wide arches.

I had a set of 235s on my FX when I bought it. They are almost the same as the standard 215s I have replaced them with except the diameter is slightly smaller so they look a bit odd from the side. I think they'd been fitted because the 215s are a bit difficult to find now but it posed a problem if I had a puncture as the spare is a 215.

Hi
I have just fitted General Grabber AT2 235 85 16's on my 95, £110 each from Jet Tyres on Canvey

Excellent ride. Mind you they couldn't be any worse than the 215 70 16's that it came with!

The speedo now reads correctly.

J66P,
Pictures, I think they fill the arch nicely and don't look too skinny. My truck has not been lifted or have spacers fitted

The diameter is the same as 265 75 16 so slightly larger than the std 265 70 16.
As Andy, Euan and Andrew say previously they look good on the FX, but with the GX/VX arch extensions I think they might look a little lost.

I know from previous LR that this size tyre is very good in most off road situations.
