Hi All
Took my 80 series out today and it has developed a mind of its own with
regards to Idling
She is a 97 4.5 petrol. All the cables linkages etc appear fine and nor
seized.
The idle fluctuates between normal 800rpm to nearly 2500.
Anyone else had this problem?
Cheers
John

Check the air connector pipe into the Throttle body.
Often that wears over time and develops a crack.
These can be hairline and hard 2 c but open up when under strain/revs etc..
I use a "fuel" (carb. engine/starter) aerosol that you can spray around
the pipe (try and all around - 360 degree). If the engine suddenly
increases (revs) while you are spraying - then you have a leak
For inspection best to take it off, wash it (do not wash/get the Air
meter wet), bend and stretch/flex and see if any cracks. Some have used
duct-tape as temp measure.
I had a bad idle before that turned out to be a loose screw on the idle
control (IAC).
PS Use text email and not HTML
