My 1994 Land Cruiser's radio is becoming obsolete. I am looking for any suggestions from those who had upgraded their radio to newer digital units (at least with Bluetooth and USB port). I prefer to keep the original dashboard and hopefully the newer unit will fit right in without damaging or modifying the dashboard. Thank you very much.

Hi @Jho,
Firstly I've upgraded my head unit a few days ago, upgrading the stereo is very easy to do. The gap the current stereo is in is called a double din slot. This means you can either buy a single din slot system and have space for something underneath or go with a double din slot and use all the space.
I've gone with a single din stereo so that I can fit a CB radion underneath it. You are going to need is an adapter between the Toyota wiring and the ISO plug that all radio's come with. This can normally be purchased from the internet and will simply translate the cars stereo wiring to the ISO stand plug that all aftermarket systems are sold.
What I'd personally do is remove the 4 screws that hold in the center dash, a good guide or removing the dash can be found here. Then I'd take a picture of the wiring harness going into the old stereo, these are normally white plugs. I'd also upgrade the speakers at the same time, depending on the vehicle what speakers you need alters, some came with 5, some came with 7 and some came with 9. Normally there are two 4" speakers in the dash but speaker sizes in the doors depend on spec level and also the country.

Thank you so much for the info. I don’t use CB, so probably go with double din slot unit. Do you happen to have the link to get the wiring diagram from internet? I think there is an amplifier somewhere in the truck for the subwoofer on the right rear end side panel compartment. I will have to find all the speakers and their specs first in order to replace them including the subwoofer. I believe you probably done a tons of search for radio and/or entertainment unit, do you have any good suggestions for entertainment unit that has GPS, DVD, radio, Bluetooth and front USB outlet? Thanks again.

The wiring adapter you need is something like this I'm 99.9% that's the one you need but I'd pop the dash take a picture of the wiring that's there and match up the adaptor they sell them on ebay amazon etc. The one I've got is identical to that but as your in America and can't say for sure as you never know.
The amp is in the boot and thats a 6" inch sub speaker on UK models but like I said get a tape measure and double check as different countries got different configurations.
This is where you need to make a list of what you wanted in a stereo, I wanted apple car play, android auto, rear camera, digital radio and then from that I went to my local auto center had a look at what they had. Once I got a list of models I did a quick google and compared prices. The problem is that car stereo models also differ per country as you have satellite radio etc, that we don't have in the UK.

Great, will look for the amp and check the subwoofer. Will do some search for wiring diagrams and speaker specs. Thanks again.
