The aircon is that chilly anymore in my 'cruiser

and since we are heading on our way towards Spain tomorrow, I thought I might sort that out.

So the options seem to be a DIY kit from halfords or get it sorted somewhere like Kwikfit.

I could stop by at Kwikfit in Elgin tomorrow or Worksop on Monday. Does it take them long to do it?

and is getting it recharged by kwikfit usually a better option than the DIY approach?,
i dont think there is much saving in the DIY method either?

Andy, check out Autokool at Barlborough, Chesterfield. Jnt 30 of M1. Mins away from Worksop. I had a full jobbie for £50. They did a pressure test first. Mine was completely empty so a top up might be less. You can use those cans, but Autokool sell them. Instead of being Halfords £40 touch they are about £16 last time I looked. Took about 15 mins. They suck any air out then put all the gas back in for a full treatment.

OK so since them, something has gone on mine and I have lost the lot! Need a leak test now. They were very friendly and accommodating. Their website is a bit odd - they sell AC stuff to the trade and you have to click around a bit to find the 'Oh so you you want to come here do you ... ' section.

Cheers Chris

always good to have a recommendation

sounds good - at first I thought not that road between worksop and chesterfield - it takes an age..
but Mrs Cook who if from Mansfield-Worksop said Barlborough is 1/2 way between Worksop-Chesterfield and the slow road is after that e.g. Stavely-Brimington

so reckon I will go there on Monday, as never too sure with the Kwikfit spanner monkeys..

the only good thing with Kwik Fit is they offer a guaantee to do with making it colder or summat, if they dont make it colder you dont pay

All that Autokool do is vehicle cooling. No tyres, sunroofs etc. Just cooling.

Ring them though and make an appointment. Don't just turn up on spec.

they are good, they have done some retro fit work for us on new trucks and never had an issue

I used the ThinkFit service and it's not bad value. They connect up the machine, dial in the car detail from a software menu and the machine does the rest (purgeing, oil, regas etc etc). The guys themselves know diddly squat about air con so overall it's porbably better to go to a 'specialist'.

There is a chap called Mike Scott near you that will come to your house/work etc to recharge your truck. He is damn good and reasonably priced. He will even work at the weekends at no extra charge.
