Anybody Considered a Range Rover ?

Why? you do know that land rover has for years been ranked as the most unreliable car in GB.

I don't particularly care about "prestige" so I would rather have a reliable car that does not need as much maintenance as a range rover.
Also you see so many of them on the road in the UK it's nice to drive a car that is not so common.

Has anybody considered a Range Rover over the Toyota ?

At which price sector of the market is this aimed at? if its the top end the new RR beats the 200 into a cocked hat. The further down the food chain you slide the Cruiser has a stronger and stronger case.
Just my experience from driving them.

Just curious as to peoples opinions, im in the market for another 4x4, at present i have a ...Range Rover P38 4.6 and a Vauxhall Monterey 3.2 V6 petrol

I had one before the Lc, broke down more times than i care to remember, the floor pan was so rotten i got wet feet when driving it.

I did for a very brief time, but then i had flash backs of skinning my knuckles most weekends with my discovery:lol:

I do think Andy is correct though, it depends what price bracket your looking at. If its fairly new and may even be under warranty then not bad but if your lower down the scale be prepared for some let downs.

Thats why defenders are good for wading as they sink quicker to get traction:laughing-rolling: (Not long sold my defender so speaking from experience:icon-biggrin:)

I considered one , i considered everything available , for the mrs because she wanted something newer . I eventually decided newer does not mean better so even with a budget to fit a new truck i ended up buying a 2001 swb colorado , different strokes for different folks but for me it just ticked more boxes than anything else .

The only Range Rover worth considering for any outdoors activity is the Classic. They have a better ride than Toyotas, and with tender care they can actually last quite long. You do have to spend time maintaining them, yes, but parts are easy to get at reasonable prices.

The Vauxhall Monterey is basically an Isuzu Trooper. Well, let the unthinkable be told... I personally prefer going offroad in my Trooper than in any of my LC. More comfortable, nimbler, generally speaking a better offroad drive. They are built tough, on par with a Toyota. The only drawbacks: there is less room in the boot, and they look less... Big and tough.

The only non-stock parts installed on mine: a set of rear Range Rover Classic springs (lifts you 50mm, with same spring rate), manual hub locks, and nylon spacers for the body.

Now, "offroad" in my neck of the woods means weeks without seeing a road, and from sunrise to night across the bush in elephant country. City-toy 4x4s need not apply...

So, Range Rover? Unless you're an enthusiast, stay away. Monterey? Give it a good look, that's a lot of very capable car for usually little money.

I'm sorry, I didn't understand the question ..

Had 3 rangerover classics the last one was one of the last 300tdi auto with air suspension and all the toys, was very nice to drive and looked great, trouble was always under it to fix it or weld it pretty much non stop maintenance.
Newer ones TDv6 TDV8 not any better just different problems, used to work in Landover main dealer we would spend all day just reprogramming ECUs due to corrupt data, so in a nutshell, you could fix a classic yourself with a basic set of tools, a later one you've got very little chance of doing any thing yourself.... main dealer or specialist, very very expensive.
So run a Toyota and get where you're going and back, save some money, and have a stress free life.

I'm just upset he's nicked my username! Change the thin to slim and you get...

Perhaps the question should have been "what alternative's are there to an LC120" as the ops previous questions all relate to which 120 he should buy .

I'd considered one initially coming here to the states when I didn't have my cruiser yet. At $5000, you can pick up a 2006 Range Rover HSE Fully loaded. Value for money IF/WHEN they work. Ended up getting a Cadillac Escalade instead at the time which served me well for the short time I had it
