Ok, people, I've always been a fan of cruisers, drove 80's years ago and bought myself a 1998 90 Colorado a couple of years ago. Engine is great, pulls like a train and brother-in-law wishes it was in his Defender (cough, spit). Kidding Gordon, each to their own!!
But....just failed its MOT on 14 points, yes, yes I know, only 14!! I was shocked! Anyway, point is, 18 years old, 154,000 on the clock, £1300 invested in Pedders suspension and springs all round, rear diff lock replaced at £400, rear seats removed and cargo guard fitted, new tank (after I holed the old one on a green lane in Lake District, my fault ) and new lines, chassis and rear cross member patched and there's still more to do. I still need (want) air-con, and a winch, bumper and 2 new front seats so there's another probably ....£4000 all in.
So, do I sell it and spend £6000-£8000 on a 'new' LC3, LC4 with air con and decent seats or do I persevere? I could do a lot of damage with even £3000 to current car.
Our ultimate plan is to drive to Cape Town in a couple of years or so with our trailer (pics to follow when built) but I'm now worried about the chassis, body mounts ( 'severe' corrosion within 30 cm of body), towing, brakes, and to be honest, every other damn thing!!
I know nobody can say definitively what to do but just looking for peoples opinions based on their experience.
Ta, much appreciated.
Ken
