Hi all,

In a couple of weeks I want to take myself, wife and two girls(5 and 4) camping abroad. I was thinking of the West coast of France for 10 days approx, my wife wants to lounge in the sun, my children want to be near water, be it seaside or a pool and other children. I am probably up for two stops maybe one by the sea and one in land near something interesting. Any ideas? experiences? websites? other ideas altogether?
(not this country though, two risky)

cheers in advance
Jonnie

ps will be using my camping trailer, requires a soft area to pitch.

the only site i have used on West'ish side was at Argenton-sur-Cruse

basic campsite, ie no swimming pool
but by a nice river and facilities clean

hiya,

For inland I'd suggest Amboise in the Loire valley - the campsite is on the island in the river complete with beaches but is a short walk from an interesting town. If you sailed to Caen, straight south , including the Mulsanne at Le Mans and turn left at Tours.
Have camped at Amboise, some years back, and it was good.

For seaside, although a little further south, Royan, great beaches, sophisticated town, even has a casino. Didn't camp here as we had a gite but the coast has loads of campsites.

regards,

X2 for Amboise - we stayed there in 2010 with Steve and Jon - nice campsite IIRC and the markets etc were interesting!

I'm still getting brownie points from purchases made at that sunday market :) can't fit it in to this years family trip unfortunately.

Thanks for the suggestions, I like the look of the river island one, we are also considering a Les Castels campsite for a few days for Kids activities and they do Kids clubs!

Now I need to tidy up the camping trailer and find some solar charging system

Hi spackrackman,

If you are looking for a website for camping holidays in France i would suggest www.gocampfrance.co.uk . We are going to Brittany with them this year and then are also looking to book Le Clarys Plage in Vendee next year through them. We liked the look of Le Clarys Plage as it's right near a beach and has a decent looking pool as well. May be the sort of thing you're looking for.
They had some great last minute deals and had most of the major holiday companies on it as well.
Hope it helps and good luck.

We've just booked a "Eurocamp" holiday in Brittany (Carnac/Gulf of Morbihan area) for 12 nights, back end of August ......it'll be nice to get away and relax, though it won't be a driving holiday as such. Would've preferred the Vendee but couldn't find any availablity so late in the day for our requirements.

Now need to get all my documents and other requirements for driving in France/Europe sorted out.

Not been to the Gulf of Morbihan area before and was hoping that you could give me some tips.....

Sure you know this stuff but you need a hi-vis vest close at hand for if/when you are pulled over by Gendarmes, and 2 breathalysers as well these days.
